ink and yarn<p>The plying's done, and this morning I wound the yarn into skeins so I can wash it. 8 ounces of three-ply yarn, 924 yards before washing. (The yarn will almost certainly floof and lose a few yards in the wash, which is desired. I'll re-measure when I wind it up to knit with.)</p><p>My next project will be a gradient spin.</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/spinning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spinning</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/yarn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>yarn</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/fiberuary" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fiberuary</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>I love spinning singles, but I do not love plying them into yarn. :P</p><p>(No advice, please. ink and yarn<p>I finished the first sock of the pair I mentioned in my last post! I love the bright pink; it's so cheerful. Now, for sock two--</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/OperationSockDrawer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OperationSockDrawer</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.knittingpirate.com/2025/01/31/in-which-the-pirate-is-pinkified/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">knittingpirate.com/2025/01/31/</span><span class="invisible">in-which-the-pirate-is-pinkified/</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>Why not, maybe I'll just put the poll here too :) I'm planning my second hybrid sock-knitting project, where I'll make the colourwork legs on the machine and then enjoy the mindless mile of stockinette down the heels and feet (okay, it's really only about 1/8 mile). I've done this once before and really liked the result: <br><a href="https://sunny.garden/@emery/113034317590877467" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">sunny.garden/@emery/1130343175</span><span class="invisible">90877467</span></a></p><p>I found the diamonds pattern on a picture of a sock somewhere and charted it up, then started playing with the pixels and came up with several variations. And while I do have a favourite, I like them all and am curious to see which YOU like best!</p><p>For some reason Mastodon doesn't allow both image attachments and polls on the same post, so I'll put the actual poll in a reply. 🤷</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SockKnitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SockKnitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/MachineKnitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MachineKnitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>I'm making a pair of "very very warm" Fleeps for my mom - but I can't go farther on the project until she tries them on, which won't be for a few weeks. It's not as if I don't have other projects to work on between now and then. :BlobCat_Giggle: </p><p><a href="https://www.knittingpirate.com/2025/01/03/in-which-the-pirate-makes-more-fleeps-2/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">knittingpirate.com/2025/01/03/</span><span class="invisible">in-which-the-pirate-makes-more-fleeps-2/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/ColdHandsWarmHeart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ColdHandsWarmHeart</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Fleeps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fleeps</span></a></p>

ink and yarn<p>Sweater's done, fiddly bits and all. Woohoo!</p><p>Two days to knit the four pieces on the machine, one day to seam, one day to weave in all the ends, and two days to fuss with handknitting this neckline. I know it *can* be done on the machine, and I plan to experiment with it when I'm not in such a hurry to finish the project.</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/Knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SweaterWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SweaterWeather</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/MachineKnitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MachineKnitting</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>Sometimes I think I know better than what the pattern instructions tell me to do - and sometimes that doesn't come back to bite me later. ink and yarn<p>Hm. What do I *do* with all this handspun yarn that I made without thinking about what I was going to use it for? </p><p>Kind of a rhetorical question but kind of not, because "admire how pretty it is" and "pet it, it's soft" will only go so far.</p><p>ETA: A lot of it is far thicker than the yarn I like to knit with, and some of it is also rather dense. Maybe I could donate it to the creative reuse center. It'd be good for artsy-crafts.</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/handspun" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>handspun</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/yarn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>yarn</span></a></p>

ink and yarn<p>This afternoon I did a lot of the prep work for publishing my trilogy of new sock patterns. Each one has a different twisted stitch pattern, and each one is named for a cocktail that matches the colour of the yarn I used for the sock.</p><p>The "Twisted Trilogy" has been a long time in the making and I am so, so excited that they're almost ready! I should be able to get the patterns live tomorrow or the next day.</p><p>(It's a little nervewracking. I haven't published anything new in a while, and all the "but what if it's not good? what if there are errors in the pattern? what if what if what if?" are very loud. But you know what... I'm gonna do it anyway!) </p><p>Is there a hashtag for knitting pattern design/designers?</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SockKnitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SockKnitting</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/knitting" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>knitting</span></a></span></p>
ink and yarn<p>My scrappy rainbow sockhead hat is done! What a great way to use up those bits and pieces of yarn that weren’t enough to make anything on their own.</p><p>I'm already working on another one in browns and blues. I might have to start selling these - goodness knows I don't need THIS many hats.</p><p><a href="https://www.knittingpirate.com/2024/11/17/in-which-the-pirate-has-a-scrappy-rainbow-hat/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">knittingpirate.com/2024/11/17/</span><span class="invisible">in-which-the-pirate-has-a-scrappy-rainbow-hat/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>You guys. YOU GUYS. I knit a sweater, with my own two hands, and it took less time and less yarn than I expected. (I might be addicted to sweaters now.)</p><p>This is the Graphic Pullover by Amy Gunderson, knit with Universal Yarn Deluxe DK Tweed Superwash. I saw a picture of it on Pinterest and fell in love with it so fast that I bought the yarn that same night. Details on the blog: </p><p><a href="https://www.knittingpirate.com/2024/11/04/in-which-the-pirate-is-black-and-white/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">knittingpirate.com/2024/11/04/</span><span class="invisible">in-which-the-pirate-is-black-and-white/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SweaterWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SweaterWeather</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>Knitting math - one of the patterns I want to use is written at 24 stitches/32 rows per 4". The fabric I like with the yarn I'm using swatches out to 28 stitches/40 rows. </p><p>That means I have 1.17 stitches and 1.25 rows for every 1 stitch/row in the pattern. </p><p>So if I would have knit the 41.3" size, I could multiply that by 1.2-ish to get 49.5, and... oh hey look, the pattern does have a 50" size. </p><p>This should work, right?</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>Ideally I would either be a) ripping back a portion of the pants I'm knitting so that I can redo the rise to fit properly or b) plying the singles I've spun into finished yarn but what I really want to do is c) cast on for a new sweater.</p><p>It's just that I have to choose which of two sweater patterns I'm going to knit before I can cast on... and since I haven't yet decided, what I'm actually doing is d) staring at yarn.</p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>Okay, for real this time - I am going to finish knitting this sock. All that’s left are two pattern repeats and the toe. Keep an eye out for the Twisted Trilogy set of sock patterns, coming soon - well, as soon as I format them for publication, anyway.</p><p><a href="https://www.knittingpirate.com/2024/10/25/in-which-the-pirate-really-truly-means-to-finish-this-time/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">knittingpirate.com/2024/10/25/</span><span class="invisible">in-which-the-pirate-really-truly-means-to-finish-this-time/</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SockKnitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SockKnitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/OperationSockDrawer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OperationSockDrawer</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>With 9 projects already in the books for 2024, #10 within spitting distance of the finish line, and #11 turning the corner into the home stretch, I bought yarn for a sweater project in memory of my grandma, whose favourite colour was purple.</p><p><a href="https://www.knittingpirate.com/2024/10/24/in-which-the-pirate-buys-yarn-for-a-sweater/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">knittingpirate.com/2024/10/24/</span><span class="invisible">in-which-the-pirate-buys-yarn-for-a-sweater/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SweaterWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SweaterWeather</span></a></p>
ink and yarn<p>As soon as it's dry, I can weave in the ends and call it finished! (It may be mid-October, but it's still too warm here to wear this sweater. But I'm ready for when the weather cools.)</p><p>Today's blog post is about the 99% complete Graphic Pullover, which is the first sweater I've hand-knit for myself: <a href="https://www.knittingpirate.com/2024/10/22/in-which-the-pirate-blocks/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">knittingpirate.com/2024/10/22/</span><span class="invisible">in-which-the-pirate-blocks/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/knitting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knitting</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/KnittingPirate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KnittingPirate</span></a> <a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/SweaterWeather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SweaterWeather</span></a></p>
