Getting reports that there may be Aurora visible in Victoria BC.

The sky is clear here in #PortAlberni but there is still a lot of light from the sunset.

Keep your eyes peeled and if you don't see them wirh your eyes, hold ip your phone's camera to the sky. It will often be able to see faint aurora more easily.

Time to thin the Apples!

Both the blushing delight and northern spy planted last year are doing fantastic.

The new northern spy planted in March has not faired well. I had to remove it from its spot to try to rehabilitate it in a pot. Prognosis is not good.

But the new plum is doing well.

As I was leaving #PortAlberni this morning on my commute to work I noticed the billboard that has hosted LNG/Oil nonsense in the past, and was empty for the past month or two, is sporting a new BCLNG ad. I didn't get a chance to take a picture, I'll try later today.

It was something about BCLNG “supporting the economy" or some bullshit lie like that.

I thought this poll in my local Alberni Valley News was interesting because 24% of respondents said they “never leave the Island”.

I know sometimes there are financial reasons. But guys... it's worth saving up $50 so you can walk on a ferry to Vancouver, hop on the City bus and go explore the big city!

Bring a picnic to Stanley Park or the West End. Walk around Granville and Georgia. Ride the Skytrain all day. Whatever! Just get off the rock! :)

My experience is completely anecdotal but having lived in #PortAlberni all my life and now out door dashing every Thursday-Saturday,it sure seems like activity in town to and from the West Coast has been very strong.

Last Friday seemed like every restaurant was packed. For late April and early May it seems very very busy.

We have a lot of azaleas . They are popular around here. I like them because they tend to be very individual. Two never bloom at the same time or in the same colour.

Almost all ours are blooming now.

Except one. On the northeast corner of the house Just a few feet from the others. Not even a hint.

It's like "Nope. Not ready. You'll just have to wait for me"

After 4 years we have an uneven number of fish in our ponds. We started with 4 and 4… now we have 2 and 6! Gained a few (naturally!) in the bottom pond and lost a couple to raccoons this winter in the top pond.

So this little fellow that found himself sort of stuck in the pump box of the bottom pond got scooped and is now making new friends in the top pond.

The ponds are looking great right now. The plants are growing fast, the water is crystal clear and the algae is almost completely gone. The little ecosystem is happy! I think the bog filters have made a big difference!
