Hey! Interesting new #BCFerries announcement with a #PortAlberni connection!

This summer the oldest ship in the fleet, Queen of Alberni, which currently serves the Tsawwassen - Duke Point route, will be shifted to a special, one way, once a day 4:30PM Tsawwassen to Departure Bay sailing!

This could be a very interesting experiment!

I wonder when the last time was that the Queen of Alberni did a trip to Nanaimo (outside Pandemic times).

CHEK · Nanaimo-bound passengers have new option of Tsawwassen-Departure Bay sailing for summerBy Liz Brown

At the local community watering hole, Char's Landing, listening to the local jazz combo headed by my former high school band teacher (at the piano) Barry Miller.

We have a wonderful tradition of all kinds of music in #portalberni

Jazz, Blues, Rock and Country (most famously, Lauren Spencer-Smith)

I made a short video this morning to mark the anniversary of AW Neill’s first speech in the Parliament of Canada. March 16, 1922. Neill was a white supremacist and especially hated Japanese immigrants. He was a cheerleader not only for exclusion of Asian immigration, but their forced deportation including after internment in WWII.
Sound familiar?

This morning I found an exchange between him and Prime Minister Mackenzie King. It was on a trade treaty with Belgium, but Neill turned it into a debate about immigration.
Sound familiar?

I mark this day because we still honour this white supremacist with the name of a street in #PortAlberni

The school board removed his name from a school a few years ago — he was also an Indian Agent in charge of Indian Residential Schools in our area — but multiple city councils have not had the courage to do the same with the street.

Here is his original speech : lipad.ca/full/permalink/620136

Removing some parts from the 1976 Fiat Spider before it is sent to the scrapper on Friday.

❤️ this car, wanted to restore it and electrify it, but it is just too far gone and restoration these days is ridiculously expensive. Better for the brain and wallet to buy one of many used versions available around for under $10,000 if I want to do that one day.

But in the meantime this one can be recycled and we can keep some bits to keep the memory of fun times over the past 45 years in our hearts. 💕.

The cargo rack should make a nice towel rack for the bathroom. :)

(Picture of the car in the snow is from a few years ago when we got a big snowfall that destroyed the shelter for the car… truly the end of the end for it. It was either build a small greenhouse/garage for it to restore it, or not.)

YES! So proud this is happening in my region. #AlberniClayoquot Congrats to #Nuuchanulth language keepers and learners!

This is also the launch of a *brand new* transit service! The West Coast has never had public Transit before. It has been years since the private bus companies (formerly Greyhound) severely cut trips.

It's very hard to get around without a car. I am hoping a connecting service will be created to get people from the #Hwy4 junction to #PortAlberni

CBCIndigenous language now included on Ucluelet bus stop signs — a first for B.C. Transit  | CBC NewsB.C. Transit says this is the first time an Indigenous language has been included on its signs anywhere within its system, but it does plan to work with other communities to include local language in other communities.
