Here’s a strange thing. IF I DO create a HomeKit Scene called “Morning” it works fine. The HomePods run the scene without confirmation, sound, anything. Just works.

If I say hey Siri “Good Morning” (with no scene or Shortcut called “Good Morning”) it will run the “Morning” scene AND give me a little da-ding confirmation that it ran successfully.

All I’m trying to do is create a SHORTCUT that turns on a bunch of lights and then speaks the words “Good morning” to me, like a nice little House AI would say to greet it’s homeowner.

I have a pair of OG HomePods. I have tried unsuccessfully to create a SHORTCUT called “Good Morning”. In my EXTENSIVE testing I can’t make Siri (via HomePods) recognize that Shortcut. If I rename it to… “Wicked” or some other word it works.

I DO NOT have a HomeKit SCENE called Good Morning or anything with the word Morning in it.

“Morning” has to be some messed up reserved word deep in Siri and associated with Scenes and not allowed for use in a Shortcut.

IT-Porn :D

There's something infinitely funny to me that I have to bounce my Nest devices over to HomeKit using HomeBridge in order to bridge them into Home Assistant because Google is just that awful that I have to use Apple's standard to get their crap working. :corgi_wtf1:

«Aktiviere die Heizung in zwei Stunden»: Siri kann das

Ich hätte es nicht für möglich gehalten; doch Siri kann smarte Geräte nach Ablauf einer bestimmten Zeit schalten. Ich habe es mit den smarten Thermostaten ausprobiert: «Siri aktiviere in 2 Stunden Heiztemperatur Tag». Das hat einwandfrei funktioniert! Apple gibt in diesem Support-Artikel v…

Before I go old testament on this #ecobee for dropping their API access, are there any known workarounds for integrating it with #HomeAssistant without relying on #HomeKit ?

I have a basic stat that supports #ZWave, but would lose out on the remote probes feature which sadly I'm pretty invested in.

Hmm, maybe someone has written a system to replicate the ecobee's remote probes features within HA using generic temperature sensors?

Grateful for any suggestions.

When enabled this would make the switch always send energy to the bulbs, sending zigbee commands when the buttons are pressed instead of working as a normal switch. The Aqara H1 and Sonoff ZbMiniR2 have this feature (thanks folks who mentioned this in the comments!!). The one I linked says it can control lights connected to other switches of the same brand so it must have the hardware ability to to that, but I’m not sure if that’s via zigbee or some proprietary vendor locked thing.

Does anyone here own one of these Aliexpress TNCE zigbee smart switches?

Does it have that “detach mode” some people mentioned in the comments (like Aqara H1 and Sonoff ZbMiniR2 have)? If so, can that be enabled via Zigbee without touching the official app?

Hey! I’ve been wanting to get some ✨colorful✨ magic smart lights, but I have an issue: I still want to be able to turn them on and off from the switches (without making them go offline when I do so, ofc). I was able to think about two different methods for this, but each is suboptimal on its own way.

Option 1: Substitute my switches with smart switches (zigbee)
(Example (aliexpress))
This is a nice option because it’d look nice, be installed on the wall exactly where the current switches are, as well as giving me the ability to also control the ‘dumb’ lights while I don’t substitute all of them for smart lights (these switches are cheaper than good smart lights).
The main disadvantage of this method, however, is that for the smart lights I’d end up having two separate controls: the light itself and the switch. When I powered the light off through the switch it’d go offline since it seems that the main feature of these switches is smartifying dumb lights. Then in order to control them from my phone I’d have to first turn on the switch and then the light. I doubt these switches have some kind of config that’d let me use their buttons to control Home Assistant scenes without stopping energy from going through them. Are there any ways of using switches without this issue?

Option 2: Get some scene switches remote controllers (zigbee)
(Example, basically this but some cheaper aliexpress zigbee)
I’d get some of these and 3d print some supports for them going over the current switches (so no one could touch the real/dumb switches and bring the lights hardlocked offline). These wouldn’t have the smart switch issue of putting the smart lights softlocked offline, but the disadvantages would be: it’d look considerably worse, it’d need batteries and it would only work for the smart lights.

My question is: are there any other options? Something that’d have Option 1 and 2 advantages without their disadvantages?

Does Home Assistant allow you to add devices controlled by it to the iOS Apple Home/HomeKit app, perhaps in a similar way to HomeBridge? If so, is that full-featured (such as letting you set light color, intensity, etc (assuming those features are supported on Home Assistant for that device, ofc))?

Finally moved the printer to the IoT segment of the home network.

Seems to have solved my long standing “Device not responding” issue within my HomeKit set up.

The last few weeks I’ve left the printer off, which also seemed to ‘fix’ the issue. Fingers crossed the IoT network lets me keep the printer on. So far so good.

I imagine what we’re going to see are the high security devices from Apple

Doorbells and cameras are clearly security liabilities so I can see why Apple has interest there

With that being said, HomeKit Secure Video kinda makes all that a moo point

Then again, you don’t always know what other cameras are doing behind the scenes, could be interesting
