I guess you can go back to the old school Mail layout (for iPad-layout columns) to prevent the new Mail Categories segmented control from messing up your layout.
I know, I know, I pick on Apple UI the most. But here's another UI/UX absolute NO-NO.
Notice how the control for Mail Categories changes form and size & not only that, but also changes the sizing of my column.
No control should change your window's layout based on its state. That's just a big no-no.
Also I don't like how the "All Mail" button hides when it isn't the active state. Why? People will think of this as a segmented control and segmented controls don't behave this way.
Continuing from my @glusightapp work over the weekend, I'm refining the Today’s Chart even more!
Smoother visuals
Cleaner experience with enhanced haptics when scrolling over the chart
More intuitive display of high and low markers

This is why you should be careful about what you put in your Sidebar-portion of your app's Toolbar and why you should give your Sidebar a suitable minimum width.
In Tower, if your Sidebar is too narrow, the button above it (which is an important navigation switch), gets moved into an overflow menu way on the right-side of the window.
They could easily fix this but the problem exists because its a new possible problem because of full-height sidebars.
Forgetting to implement UI animations can make your menus feel static and unresponsive. Add subtle transitions and animations to improve the user experience. #Unity3D #UIUX #gamedesign #indiedev
Happy 25th Birthday, Aqua!!! Aqua raised the bar for what a Desktop UI should be. Steve Jobs was so giddy in introducing Aqua to the world back in 2000.
We’ve yet to get a UI redesign again of this magnitude. Yosemite removed the magic of Aqua and Big Sur downright killed it.
Here are some gorgeous renditions of Aqua by @tuomas_h. Find this and more on his Dribbble account.
Modern Mac design is not great design. Just look at how their beloved full-height sidebar and inspectors just eat up your toolbar space for no reason if you widen them.
Also unified with the titlebar, it also cuts more into your available space for nothing. For no good, useful reason.
Good design is not just how it looks but also how it works.
And this just doesn't work. It's a regression from what we had before.
I have added a new article to my own #HIG for Mac apps: Toolbar Guidelines.
This article goes over how to design, organize, and use built-in #NSToolbar & #NSToolbarItem objects and their features.
It also goes over system behaviors when toolbars are mixed with Sidebars, Inspectors, & multi-content layouts!
As a bonus, it also goes over bottom bars & accessory bars. Check it out and let me know what you think!
Ok Fediverse, help me out since search is useless. A number of years ago I came across a phenomenal article for building a website/brand color palette. It included specific steps for desaturating or overlaying your brand's primary color to find harmonious grays/blacks/whites or something like that. Any ideas, or just any relevant resources for making color palettes?

Notice how:
1. The titlebar & the toolbar have their own row & don't have to compete for horizontal space (like they do no with unified toolbars).
2. The sidebar (née source list) doesn't eat into the toolbar spacing either because it isn't full height.
3. The sidebar & toolbar have chrome colors which distinguish it from content UI. Everything is nicely compartmentalized.
4. The use of bottom bars!!!
5. Drag handles for the sidebar & split view.
6. IT IS NOT A BLINDING WHITE BLOB
Hey Data/UIUX folks, how do you handle preferred pronouns on an input form that feeds into a database? Obviously, a drop-down menu is too limited, but free-form text input is too unruly. RegEx validation of some kind, perhaps?
The new update to @Vivaldi changed the way the UI works and I'm not really a fan. I'm okay with increasing the size of the UI elements but something about the spacing feels "off" somehow.
I’m updating my work Mac. It’s been on “20 Minutes remaining” for 20 minutes already.
This bit of the user interface seems like an impossible problem. Maybe with #QuantumComputing?
