Last week, I activated the #SOTA summit of Moel Gyw. This time I was going to give #23cm a proper go and I could see a few others had similar plans.
Armed with my FT-857, SG-Lab transverter, loads of suncream and no idea on how I was going to connect and mount the gear when I got there, I set off.
Parking was a pain, and it took some trial and error at the top, but I made 9 QSOs on 23cm with the PCB antenna and 2w! After that, I moved to #2m which was good fun as usual. #HamRadio #AmateurRadio

Today, a walk to Ruabon Moors trig point, AKA Ruabon Mountain South trig point with my good friend @DafyddJack. It was a long one, and we had to make our own path for the last part up to the trig, but it was worth it. Played a little bit of radio when we got there, and managed a handheld to handheld QSO on #2m with a #SOTA station on Scafell Pike. Video to follow. What a great day! Betty the dog is pictured enjoying the walk. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #VHF

🎉 Our newsletter is BACK! 🎉

Introducing the "Maroon and Watt". The club has been much very active this semester, and to tell you all about it our club president Katherine KT5KMF has taken up the mantle of Newsletter Editor!

Hear about a SOTA trip, an airport foxhunt, a new fan dipole for our FlexRadio, club outreach, and ...soup?

We hope you enjoy, and stay tuned for the next issue this summer!

I've been staying in Medicine Park, OK for a few days, doing #SOTA and #POTA activations in the nearby Wichita Mountains. The cabin I'm staying in is one the slope of Mt. Cummins, W5O/WI-031. There's a hiking trail that leads up a hill with a nice view of Mt. Scott and has a bench to sit on. I took my KH-1 and chased POTA from there this morning. Good way to start a day.

Sunset #sota to round the weekend off, Kerloch GM/ES-059 with contacts from Peterhead to Dundee on 2m. The RH770 is a solid antenna.

10km walked, 450m climbed and summit activated in under 2 hours. Pleased with the pace.

More wind than I expected, shorts and no gloves was a brave combination on the summit for this time of year!

I made lots of excited sounds when I hit the shoulder of the hill and the landscape came into view, bathed in light about 15 minutes before sundown. It was a joy to be on the summit at that time.
