Returned to the hills for some SOTA action, this past weekend, in the good company of Rui, CT7ALW. Activated CT/MN-004 and CT/MN-044, without much fuss. On the first one, a nice doggo from the village showed us the way, but decided to switch to another team (hikers) when no food came his way. My new shinny orange HT was a major fail, on the other hand, easily overloaded.

Today I did my first ever #SOTA activation! DM/NW-062 Hünenburg

The ascent of 73 m to the summit in 302 m height was a nice hike. Usually I operate at sea level. So this was special to me. I used my FX-4CR radio with xOTA EFHW antenna and 4 Ah LiFePO4 battery. Very nice and lightweight setup compared to my goto-POTA-rig, the FT-891.

Nice pileup on 20m!

This was also a #ParksOnTheAir 2-fer with #DE0079 (Terra.vita UNESCO Geopark) and #DE0834 (Hermannshöhen-Weg)

Yesterday I activated Frog Lake Buttes (W7O/CN-106). I tested out the K6STR emergency-antenna. It performed amazingly on 20m and 17m. Big pileups there and even got Japan on 20m. I think I need to do some experimenting with the windings to get better tuning on 15-10m. Still, it was a blast! Definitely recommend adding to your radio-aid kit.

The ski down the mountain was awful. Absolutely frozen and torn up by snow mobiles. Took the road down so it was basically 3 miles of 🍕🍕🍕#HamRadio #SummitsOnTheAir
