"Reminder: Spotline is coming soon!"

wwff.co/2025/05/reminder-spotl

"Spotline, WWFF’s new Spots & Agenda service, is coming soon. It will replace the current WWFF Cluster and Agenda, with the plan being to have it up and running on June 1st, 2025."

(please spread the word to all WWFF activators/hunters in your circles)

Spotline, WWFF's new Spots & Agenda service, is coming soon. It will replace the current WWFF Cluster and Agenda, with the plan being to have it up and running on June 1st, 2025.
Among other things, Spotline features a telnet server that mimics DXSpider. This means that you can connect to "Spotline" as a cluster node to receive WWFF spots into your favorite logging program.
Steps are also under way to integrate Spotline with HamAlert, PoLo, and Port-A-Log. Stay tuned! (original OH6KZP) #wwff

OK, since I've moved instances from octodon.social it's time for another #introduction. My name is David, a #HamRadio operator with a callsign of K2FI. I live in #JacksonHole, #Wyoming (DN43) and am active in #POTA and #WWFF.

I'll post about radio, politics (usually to rage at the US Republican Party because they suck and hate America), drinks, #hiking, and other random things.

In the real world I'm an IT solution architect (currently "between jobs" :( ) and play a little guitar.

Had this paddle for about 6 months and it's let me down now a couple of times - misses dits and dahs. I’ve burnished the contacts but it only fixes the problem for a short period. I have a (now discontinued) Palm Pico which I love but I’d like a backup for #POTA and #WWFF work. Any recommendations?

Is my point that people should boycott POTA?

My point really is that #POTA should become a more friendly neighbor of #WWFF. Separate, but friendly.

#GMA started as a split away from #SOTA. Today, no hostility between GMA and SOTA remains. Double activations are commonplace.

My point is: POTA should remove their hostility-preserving rule from their code of conduct.

Whether you activate POTA before they do that? 🤷 I don't care. It's a great program.

Check the POTA rules docs.pota.app/docs/code_of_con :

"Registered Parks on the Air participants will not ... make posts or comments on any POTA site, forum, or social media account that are ... containing information about other portable park operation programs."

A fellow from my local ham club hunts all programs he can. He worked someone activating #POTA+#WWFF and spotted that activation as double on POTA.

It was: Apologize to regain access.

He didn't.

In Europe, there are lively communities doing #GMA, #SOTA, and #WWFF activations.

#POTA started as a hostile split off #WWFF in the USA. Unfortunately, it seems determined to keep the hostility alive: If you activate a park simultaneously as WWFF and POTA, intending to send the log to both, and announce that fact via POTA media, you're banned from the program.

Still, POTA is picking up speed here in Europe too, I understand.
