The sale of #Paramount would end the Redstone family’s decades-long control of #CBS News & Paramount Pictures & put it in the hands of #DavidEllison, the son of #LarryEllison, a #tech #billionaire who has backed #Trump.

Brendan Carr, the chairman of the #FCC, has said that Trump’s lawsuit against Paramount was not linked to the FCC’s review of the company’s merger w/Skydance🙄. Paramount has also said that the 2 issues were unrelated🙄.

The size of the settlement, $16 million, is the same sum that #ABC News agreed to pay in December to settle a *defamation* case filed by #Trump against the network & one of its anchors, George Stephanopoulos. #Paramount’s board was concerned that paying a higher amount to settle the case could increase the company’s exposure to potential legal actions from shareholders accusing them of #bribery.

As part of the settlement, #Paramount said that it had agreed to release written transcripts of future “#60Minutes” interviews with presidential candidates. The company said that the settlement did not include an apology.

The deal is the clearest sign yet that #Trump’s ability to intimidate major American institutions extends to the #media industry.

"We don't need a communist in this country, but if we have one, I'm going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation," #Trump continued.

"We send him money," he added. "We send him all the things that he needs to run a government."

Representatives for #ZohranMamdani did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.

#Trump has been hurling insults at #ZohranMamdani doubling down on his assertion that the candidate is a communist, & threatening to withhold federal #funding from the Democratic primary winner.

Mamdani vowed in his recent acceptance speech to use his power to "stop masked ICE agents from deporting our neighbors."

Asked during a press briefing Tues what his response is to Mamdani's promise, Trump said, "Well then, we'll have to arrest him."

Trump’s sweeping #pardons of #Jan6 insurgents have led to worries about actions being taken against #attorneys involved in the massive prosecution of the >1,500 #Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol as lawmakers met to certify President Joe #Biden’s election victory. Trump pardoned or commuted the sentences of all of them on his first day back…, releasing from prison people convicted of #SeditiousConspiracy & #violent #assault on police.

#Corruption in plain sight

The #DOJ on Friday fired at least 3 prosecutors involved in #Jan6 #criminal cases, the latest moves by the #Trump admin targeting attys connected to the massive prosecution of the Jan 6, 2021, #insurrection

Those dismissed include 2 attorneys who worked as supervisors overseeing Jan6 prosecutions in the #USattorney’s office in #DC as well as a line atty who prosecuted cases stemming from the insurrection…

Was thinking about what @AndreaChalupa has said about modern autocrats not being fascists but kleptocrats in a transnational crime syndicate. Trump (US), Bolsonaro (Brazil), Modi (India), Kim (NKorea), Erdogan (Turkey), Johnson (UK), Orban (Hungary), Assad (Syria), Putin (Russia), Netanyahu (Israel), el-Sisi (Egypt), Khamenei (Iran)--they do not give a damn about their countries.

Who might? Xi--and no one should feel better.

Also, WHY is this incomplete list so long??
