…When the suit was filed fmr DC AG Racine held a news conference pledging accountability for those “conspiring to terrorize the District of Columbia, for unlawfully interfering with our country’s peaceful transition of power & for assaulting our men & women in blue.”

…[Jan 6 advocate & participant] #EdMartin, #Trump’s selection to lead the DC US attorney’s office, which oversaw #Jan6 cases, has fired prosecutors who handled that work or investigated Trump.

The #Trump admin ran into its first roadblock…,when a snr career prosecutor in the US Atty’s office in DC resigned rather than carry out the demand to freeze the funds over *possible* [no evidence] wire fraud. But the investigation did not end…

Interim US Atty #EdMartin then personally submitted a seizure warrant application w/o any other prosecutors in his office that was rejected by a US magistrate judge in DC, who found that the #DOJ failed to establish a reasonable belief a crime occurred.

3 weeks ago, the #DOJ was emphatic: #Trump may have pardoned Kentuckian Dan Wilson for #crimes he committed at the Capitol on #Jan6, but that #pardon did not extend to his unrelated conviction for illegally storing #firearms at his home.

Then, on Tues, the US atty in DC [#EdMartin] reversed course, saying it had “received further clarity” about Trump’s true intent, which included pardoning Wilson for the #gun case. Prosecutors did not explain how they arrived at this new “clarity.”

#EdMartin’s tweet, posted by the official account for the US Attorney in DC, said:

“As President Trumps’ (sic) lawyers, we are proud to fight to protect his leadership as our President & we are vigilant in standing against entities like the AP that refuse to put America first.”

US Attys are NOT the president’s lawyers. They work for the American people & take an oath to the Constitution & to support the laws of the United States.

A tweet posted by #EdMartin, #Trump’s nominee and the current interim acting US Attorney for the District of Columbia [& a #Jan6 advocate], raised alarms among observers across the partisan political aisle Monday afternoon for his comments about the president’s ongoing dispute with the #AssociatedPress.

The Trump admin has barred #AP reporters from the Oval Office, Air Force One, & other official White House events because they use the correct geographical designation the #GulfOfMexico.

After one month in office, #EdMartin appears to be following through, taking actions that have alarmed lawyers inside & outside his office who say he’s leveraging the power of the #DOJ against political opponents & intimidating career prosecutors seen as insufficiently #loyal to #Trump. He fired prosecutors who investigated Trump as a part of special counsel #JackSmith’s team & who worked on #Jan6, 2021, Capitol #insurrection cases.

In scores of his personal podcasts from Aug 2023 to this Jan, #EdMartin amplified #Trump’s claims, not supported by available evidence, that charges against him were made to damage him politically, & that prosecutors may have violated federal criminal conspiracy laws, #DOJ policies or legal #ethics rules. The conversations on Martin’s Pro-America Report podcast & related radio show often revolved around Trump’s desire for “#retribution” against current or fmr dept prosecutors.

On podcasts, DC US attorney discussed investigating #Trump foes

*#Conservative* legal activist #EdMartin had conversations last year about potential targets for prosecution. Now he & #DOJ have power to bring cases.

In the 2 yrs before he became DC's top federal prosecutor, US Attorney Ed Martin publicly discussed investigating high-profile #Justice Dept officials who played a role in bringing charges against Trump & his allies.

#EdMartin, the top prosecutor in DC escalated his scrutiny of what he characterized as potential threats directed at billionaire #ElonMusk & *government workers* [#DOGE], demanding info from a Democratic congressman who criticized Musk & telling his office he planned to prosecute anyone targeting [those] public ofcls.

WaPo is publishing the text of letters Martin sent to Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) & Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY)…
