ACA Signups · Oh yeah...Musk/Trump CMS plans to reverse Biden-era ACA rules, throw DACA & transgender folks under the bus, moreThis was actually announced a few weeks ago, but I was knee-deep in my Congressional District-level Enrollment Breakout Pie Chart project so I didn't get around to posting about it until now. Via the Musk/Trump Admin's Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a proposed rule to address the troubling amount of improper enrollments impacting Affordable Care Act (ACA) Health Insurance Marketplaces across the country. CMS’ 2025 Marketplace Integrity and Affordability Proposed Rule includes proposals that take critical and necessary steps to protect people from being enrolled in Marketplace coverage without their knowledge or consent, promote stable and affordable health insurance markets, and ensure taxpayer dollars fund financial assistance only for the people the ACA set out to support. It's important to note from the outset that the issue of people being enrolled in ACA plans (or switched from their existing plan to another) by unscrupulous insurance agents/brokers is a real one which I've written about several times before; some of the actions being taken by the Musk/Trump Admin to address this issue are actually reasonable.

#Harris had a plan for #caregivers: "The intensity of caregiving would require her to stop work as a teacher, but if she stopped that paid work, she’d be unable to buy food & pay for housing. W/o a job, she could receive Medicaid, but @ 48 & willing & able to work, she’d be among those called out as not fit for Medicaid. Currently, she receives health insurance through the expansion of #Medicaid via the #ACA — which some propose cutting."

STAT · Cuts to Medicaid will set the U.S. back 35 years in dementia care“We’re the richest country in the world. It’s callous to say it’s costing too much for poor disabled people to do chair yoga.”

@violetmadder how exactly do you suppose Obama would have gotten more with the razor thin margins he had in Congress against lock-step opposition?

Our system is still terrible, but it was even more terrible before the ACA. I'm self employed and used to work in various levels of healthcare from provider to facilities to purchasing so I'm intimately familiar with how bad it was before the ACA.

Self employed, I couldn't buy insurance before the ACA until I wiggled into a special major risk program that covered less and cost me more at age 29 than my off-exchange plan did at age 49 (without adjusting for inflation).

The #ACA broke a decades long impasse in healthcare reform. That's pretty strong to me.

I'd have loved for it to go further too and Obama himself has said it was meant to be a first step.

Here's a simple way to support trans people in the U.S.: leave a comment on the rule below. The proposed change would limit or eliminate gender care for trans people under ACA plans. Leave a comment before April 11.

Please share widely; remember that if they get away with this with little public reaction, they'll come for YOUR care next. Make noise, protect others now, you are protecting yourself in the future.
