@paul I was about to buy this for #Homebridge but then I realized that I have moved nearly everything to native HK by now and the old Raspberry Pi is more than enough.

There's something infinitely funny to me that I have to bounce my Nest devices over to HomeKit using HomeBridge in order to bridge them into Home Assistant because Google is just that awful that I have to use Apple's standard to get their crap working.
The Home Assistant x Nest saga continues. The temperature sensors and Nest x Yale smart locks are only accessible through a private API, so the Home Assistant integration doesn't work with them. There is, however, a HomeKit integration that taps into that API. So, uh, I have a Homebridge server now.
I don't recommend anything from Google or Nest for your smarthome, jeez. Oh well, not my house, so I'm just happy to get it working.
Does Home Assistant allow you to add devices controlled by it to the iOS Apple Home/HomeKit app, perhaps in a similar way to HomeBridge? If so, is that full-featured (such as letting you set light color, intensity, etc (assuming those features are supported on Home Assistant for that device, ofc))?
Poor #footiMac has been stuck at 99% 'processing triggers for man-db' for a good 30 minutes!
Guys... the 2008 iMac may be approaching its limits with #Mastodon, #Pixelfed #Wview Weather Server, #HomeBridge, periodic #FFMpeg timelapse scripts and 4 live #NGINX streams.
I am also upgrading it to #Bookworm and #Mastodon v4.3
While posting to you all…. and deleting a small bout of Spam.
GO little #footimac GO!!
Something is really weird with #HomeKit and my #Hue thermometers.
Even weirder, I was able to do it fine with a separate Hue sensor. I haven't dared edit it to see if it still works. And sometimes the summary description is accurate and sometimes it's wrong.
I wonder if it's a #Homebridge issue, or C to F conversion. Controller shows that the list of valid values are mot whole numbers, so maybe it's only allowing values that round the same in both apps. But then why is one device working but not the other?
LT Anyone using any #homekit #automation tricks for monitoring laundry equipment? I want to trigger lighting scenes instead of push notifications. I'm willing to buy sensors, but I'd like to avoid having to run any #homeassistant, #homebridge, etc. servers just for this.
Every illness is a great time to update home IT infrastructure! So far I’ve taken care of:
- #RaspberryPi OS on my home “server”
- #Docker
- #HomeBridge Docker container
- HomeBridge plugins
- #Cockpit web console
- Cockpit Docker plugin
Every step reminded me why I dislike open source so much. I had to update everything, because every time I’ve touched something another thing broke… If done once every half a year by an amateur it becomes an inconvenience and a mess…

I think #Homebridge is responsible for my PI3 crashing regularly but I don't know how to prove it...
Imagining this guy with a HomeKit/Homebridge setup and the absolute carnage he would cause his family #disney #homekit #homebridge #apple
Checking htop on #footiMac after two weeks of operations with its upgraded resources, and new responsibilities.
It is still far more responsive in all respects. Changes I've noticed:
1) very few web response delays for Mastodon retrieving posts/notifications or uploading pictures/videos.
2) when I logged in remotely before it would take a few seconds. Now it is nearly instant.
3) according to htop the loads are below 0.70 most of the time.
4) RAM usage has gone from 3.2GB (84%) to 6.3GB (40%)

#Linux partisans love to think people don't try it on the desktop because "they are lazy" or "they're comfortable with the OS that comes on their hardware" and that using Linux is "easy."
I've been running #ElementaryOS for several years & its getting to the point that #HomeBridge on it wants something newer because #GLIBC isn't up to date.
Searching the internet for how to upgrade the OS got me to https://jeansen.github.io/2023/05/05/upgrade-elementaryos-loki-to-juno.html which, I emphasize is BY FAR the clearest method for upgrading.
Which reminds me of this Homebridge plugin a fellow Taycan owner put together: https://www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-porsche-taycan
May have to tinker with the API portion of the node package a bit
Ok #HomeAutomation nerds: my current HomeBridge Raspi (PiZero) is acting up. I have a whole new one (Pi 4!) to replace it. Here's the thing: when I went HomeBridge in the first place it's because there really wasn't anything else. If you have a strong allegiance to either #HomeBridge or #HomeAssistant can you share why? I'm wondering if this upgrade might also be a good time to switch.
As part of my general maintenance of our smart home stuff, I kinda want to upgrade from the current Pi that I have running Homebridge. But holy hell, the Pi shortages are *still a thing*?!?
There's zero chance I'm going to spend >$100 on a device like this, and I'm far too old to do the thing where I stalk vendors to see when they restock and jump on a new order.
Any #homebridge #ring users here? Are you able to pair your ring cameras with Home app as unbridged cameras vs having all of them show as a group under the Homebridge bridge device? Docs say this is possible but I don’t see the pairing code. #homebridgering
What's the best way to get a new #raspberrypi 3B or 4 these days? Shipping (or pick up) in Northern California/Bay Area. Didn't know the base/lower-end models are out of stock everywhere. I'd like to set up #homebridge and instead of mucking around with my Windows 11 PC, I'd like to use a separate machine to host Homebridge.
Finally got #Homebridge setup on my Mac Mini so I can control my #Elgato lights with Siri and automate them via #HomeKit.
I should be able to set up scenes that trigger automatically when I launch video conferencing apps.
