A talk with bee researcher Lars Chittka (via himself on 🦋 ): biologicalrecording.co.uk/2025 "He shows that they are profoundly smart, have distinct personalities, can recognize flowers and human faces, exhibit basic emotions, count, use simple tools, solve problems, and learn by observing others. They may even possess consciousness."

Killer whales have been observed using a type of kelp to help groom each other. The kelp was bitten off by one whale and then approaching another the kelp was rubbed between their bodies. It is thought that the kelp helps to rub off parasites. The procedure was repeated by others in the group. It could also help to maintain bonds within the group too. theguardian.com/environment/20

The Guardian · Killer whales seen grooming each other with kelp in first for marine tool useBy Oliver Milman

"“For me, the takeaway is we know very little—even the very basic of how they find a site,” Parzer says. “Then there’s a lot of species variation. Why are some puddling a lot? Why are some not at all? We have some species where females also puddle—why is that? And then we noticed there’s a big gap. A whole continent is essentially missing—Africa—so there clearly needs to be something done in that area as well.”"

Day 32 cont 🗳️⚔️🤜🤛👊

As the election gets closer, #extremism and #conflict is happening at polling booths with unruly candidate, party members and constituants.

“A barrage of #complaints about #threatening and #aggressive #behaviour at polling booths has fuelled tension in Australia’s most hotly #contested #electorates and prompted the #ElectoralCommission to warn #candidates in marginal seats that such behaviour would discourage #voters

who are cis people? What is a cis man? What makes a man cis? What makes a man trans?

(in case anyone wants to misrepresent any of this video or my posting of it -- no one is or should be disposable. Even if you don't like them.
I might say otherwise in my own personal experiences with a handful of people who have behaved unconscionably towrd me, but that's neither my ideal nor what I think would bring a better world.
Even less so on demographic grounds. Like, I understand if Person A abuses you, yeah you will be experiencing a range of emotions -- or shutdown, or cycle through them. But that's individual, not systemic. anyway.)

Obvious one we should all be able to agree on tho: posturing based on attacking others is not "real" gender. It's just insecurity getting defensive at other people.

I’ve been dismayed at signs in public service areas saying that abusive behaviour won’t be tolerated. However, thinking more, those signs should have been there forty years ago when I was at the front. The shitty customer behaviour has always been there. The spine from management to support staff has not. #behaviour
