And today’s…oh drat is that the time?…yesterday’s (well around here at least!) bee fact ladies and gentlefolk.
‘Research conducted recently in the US…’
There’s something we won’t be able to say for much longer.
She was famous throughout the sanctuary that year. They called her Goldie!

Research conducted recently in the US confirmed that carrying pollen raises bumblebee body temperature.
Temperature of #bumblebees carrying pollen was shown to be a lot higher than that of #bees with empty pollen baskets.

The #bees are absolutely loving our neighbor's artichoke flowers.

Common eastern bumblebee, aka pocket panda
Plants are Fukushu kumquat (Citrus obovata) and pitanga-juba (Eugenia repanda)
I neglected to mention on a previous post that the pitanga-juba flowers smell like jasmine!
Lovely seeing the polinators all over my oregano. #gardening @gardening #bloomscrolling #bees

Western Honey Bee
The western honey bee was one of the first domesticated insects, and it is the primary species maintained by beekeepers to this day for both its honey production and pollination activities.
‘Could become a death spiral’: scientists discover what’s driving record die-offs of US honeybees
Early?
N….actually…yes I am.
Yay me!
What’s that?
No this isn’t yesterday’s fact!
It’s not.
Don’t even say that.
Why would you think that?
I’m offended…so…I’m going to set up a new support group and apply for public funding and cancel everybody who continues to offend me and it’s going to be called People Who Lie About Being Punctual And Get Offended When Others Point Their Terminological Inexactitudes Out To Them or PWLABPAGOWOPTTIOTT for short…
Today’s fact will arrive later folks!

On the flip side heatwaves also reduce the quantity of nectar produced by plants which means less food available to #bumblebees already suffering from heat stress. So the #bees may throw in the towel and go home!

I was trying to get a photo of the little bees after I took photos of this big bumble bee but wasn't successful but I see I got a good picture of one with the bumblebee. I think it's a Ligated Furrow Bee minus it's usual coating of pollen but it has a little bit stuck to it. The big ones is a Brown-belted Bumble Bee Bombus griseocollis I think.
3 photos from today’s #beach trip.

To everyone posting #insect photos so far this week: THANK YOU! They are AWESOME! I'm really enjoying them. Especially the #bees, but there have been some kick ass #dragonfly and #butterfly photos... plus a cool #spider photo or two. Truly choice stuff! Great timeline cleansers. Thank you. Thank you!
Edit: big shout out to all the awesome #flower photos as well. They are just as delightful!
Got pretty lucky and spotted my first cuckoo leafcutter bee in the garden today - and Alternate Cuckoo leafcutter bee. I had to check the list of known species in the province to make sure of the ID.
