That's dedication to the job. Gets up and starts working immediately.</p><p>🐛 Unbee-knownst, a caterpillar munches below. Probably a Geometer Moth caterpillar but haven't been able to get confirmation yet.</p><p>Good example of two ways insects interact with plants ecologically. Some eat them, other pollinate them. </p><p>Insects evolved in association with certain plants and have adapted to their defenses. I need to get some mallows, actually, especially the U.S. temperate version of the popular Hibiscus. </p><p>The platter-shaped flowers of the Swamp Rose-Mallow would look great. Don't need them because they lay their eggs in other bee's nests. (This is called being "cleptoparasitic".)</p><p>🐝 There have to be enough of their specific prey bees to keep their population going. Here in Ontario we have at least 400 native bees (none of which are the honeybees, which are from Europe). Bees are key to pollination. WearyBonnie<p>I forgot to take a photo during daylight, oops. When I was gardening earlier I found a few bamboo tubes which had fallen out of my little tin can native bee nursery, which I thought no bees had ever used.. but one of the tubes was occupied!! This is from my garden where I have plenty of space for <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/NativePlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NativePlants</span></a>. </p><p>👁️ I'm always looking for <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/NativeBees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NativeBees</span></a> on these flowers, a favorite of theirs. When I see them, I'll look up what else they need for their lifecycle and supply that as well.</p><p>🐝 There are bee homes you can purchase, but sometimes it's just adding sand to soil or placing small pebbles in a good location. Not hard at all. </p><p>🦋 But wait, there's more! Gem Moth caterpillars eat the leaves.
