My butterfly amaryllis this morning.

I raised this amaryllis from a small bulb I purchased 4 yrs ago. I wasn't sure if it was ever going to bloom but amaryllis foliage s quite lovely on its own.

Definitely worth the wait

This variety of amaryllis has six-pointed, teardrop-shaped petals that create a trumpet-like star structure and radiate from a center with long stamens and a pistil that droop down and across the top of the lowest petal. Each petal is a pale lime green with maroon edges and feathering that is dense near the flowers center and becomes streaky towards the petal tips. The stamens are white with tan anthers and the pistil is white with a white stigma.

White-tailed buck (I believe) keeping a low profile on Clear Creek Trail yesterday.

As you can see, it's still "High Brown Season"™ here in Ioway. About a month or so till the "Green'ening"™.

Without antlers, white-tailed deer males can be distinguished from females using head shape and size. Males are larger and have a flatter head (for antler growth) and square face while females are much rounder. Based on head shape this may be a young buck.

Took my very 1st robin photo in March 2021. I celebrated by beginning a new tradition. I decided that my 1st robin photo each spring would mark my official 1st day of the season, 3/20 or not.

Caught this handsome devil yesterday, so, my Spring-eth Hath Sprung-eth!

Sprites & sinusoidal waves.

Walking near I-80 last night so decided to head up to a nearby walking bridge that crosses it. Haven't done one of these in a few yrs. Don't have a cityscape as a backdrop to my traffic pics so I "liven" them up.

Abstract long exposure of nighttime traffic on Interstate 80 near Coralville, Iowa. During the exposure the camera was intentionally shaken. Instead of just streaks of light this creates patterns of light like sinusoidal waves and abstract clusters of lines and squiggles. The colors of light are distinct for each light source and include all colors of the rainbow and white light. Some of the larger sinusoidal lines have additional textures like a ladder-like effect and and they consist of several waves that are out of phase with each other.

My Covid started to wane on Tues. Feeling much better today. Thought I'd share this sunset off my back porch from last week. There are buildings/trees out of frame left/right. Certain times of yr the sun sets between them & the weather cooperates .

Near the bottom center to the right frame the clouds are highlighted brilliant oranges and golds. In the top portion of the frame the clouds are much thinner. These clouds are are pale yellow-white where highlighted and light gray in shadows. Large patches of evening blue sky are visible between the thin clouds of the upper frame.

Fascinated by Northern flickers since I 1st learned they exist. The spot pattern on their chest (not seen here) looks JUST like the holes they make in trees! Remarkable coloring & that shock of red! Was lucky to catch this beauty drinking from the Iowa River in 2023.

Cold but beautiful sunny/no wind morning so headed out on Clear Creek Trail. Caught this lovely barred owl's flight shadow headed to the tree otherwise I may have passed by.

Surprisingly, this is my 1st owl encounter/photo. Such a lovely experience!

Today is supposed to be the last day of subzero wind chills. So, of course, it's supposed to be in the 40s next week . Sunny today and lower winds so I'll have to head down to the river while its still frozen.

A little preview of spring
