That’s it. I simply cannot use @zenbrowser for work.

My battery drains faster than a truck burning fuel. My CPU goes crazy. Bugs break the little concentration I have.

This is mainly a lesson to myself: do not use beta software unless you are truly and fully committed to address the potential consequences.

Going back to vanilla #Firefox, hopefully switching to @librewolf as soon as I have some time to get it up and running.

#mozilla #firefox finally has (experimental) tab grouping support!

Works quite nice in Firefox 136, you need to activate it through about:config, search for "browser.tabs.groups.enabled" and set it to true.

Then just drag tabs on one another, and they group :)

@Rusty @dragonarchitect I disagree re: webOS and FirefoxOS.

#webOS failed due to lack of market penetration (there was only like 1 Tablet from #hp) and #FirefoxOS failed because @mozillaofficial didn't even offer to sell devices to folks like me and @fuchsiii that wanted one.

  • The only devices with #Firefox OS in the #EU were a few #NetLock'd #prepaid phones that got sold in Spain (reqiring ID for no valid reason!) and which were essentially useless for anyone outside of Spain.

Add to that the absurdity that #Mozilla basically expected carriers (!!) to maintain and provide the #AppStore|s themselves and you get market fracturing worse than the "P.R." #China (!!!)…

It was mismanaged and self-sabotaged in the worst possible way.

  • Similar to how #OLPC never sold the #XO1 in retail and didn't even offer the "Give one, Get one" deal in most places...

The #Duopoly of #Android & #iOS wasn't unavoidable, but an outcome of #SelfSabotage and halfassed non-commitment by competitors!

so for years and years everyone on the correct side of the #tech politics spectrum has been weary of #mozilla foundation but also aware that the ... like 2%?... market share that #gecko holds among web engines is the only thing left from giving away the entire internet to google and apple.

whats keeping anyone from forking gecko and developing it separately? if the community rallies around it, then all the non-corpo aligned #foss browsers can build on it (significant proportion of them already do) and granted we have to give credit to mozilla but at least we don't have to constantly chase and disable every ai product they try to shove into their updates.

what am i missing?

I looked on #reddit and the general tech press to see if the community had understood what is obvious today – enabling this setting by default allowed #Mozilla to further monetize the new tab page. I found afnan-khan’s sad submission of Mozilla’s privacy notice post. 13 net upvotes, 0 comments.

A massively consequential change with regards to data sharing in advertising, and the #Firefox community had nothing to say about it.

It’s finally making sense. #Mozilla reduced granularity into the options for data collection in #Firefox, enabled additional data collection by default, and gave itself the ability to use this new data for advertising purposes. Users would have to opt out of this data collection for it not to be used for advertising purposes (a purpose that Mozilla in this iteration is not forthright about).

#Mozilla warns #Firefox users to update browsers to the latest version to avoid facing disruption and security risks caused by the upcoming expiration of one of the company's #rootcertificates.
Mozilla certificate expires this Friday, March 14, 2025, and was used to sign content, including add-ons for various Mozilla projects and Firefox itself.
Users need to update to #Firefox128 (released in July 2024) or later and ESR 115.13 or later for 'Extended Support Release'.
