"#Money is the problem. Not too little, but too much. Where there's #wealth, there's a natural #human desire to make more #wealth. Ever since #Firefox 1.0 in 2004, Firefox has never had to compete. It's been attached like a #mosquito to an #artery to the #Google #cash #firehose. #TheRegister noted it in 2007, and it made more the next year. We were dubious when Firefox turned #five."
"And as for that #money — remember back in 2018? That's when #Google dropped "Don't be evil" as its #motto."
"#Mozilla's #leadership is #directionless and #flailing because it's never had to do, or be, anything else. It's never needed to know how to make a #profit, because it never had to make a #profit. It's no wonder it has no real #direction or #vision or clue: it never needed them. It's role-playing being a #business."
"Like we said, don't #blame the #app. You're still #better off with Firefox or a fork such as #Waterfox. #Chrome even #snoops on you when in #incognito mode, and as we #warned you, Google removed the APIs #adblocker #extensions used. You still get better #adblocking in #Firefox."

"#Mozilla has missed so many boats that it's not even funny to #catalog them, but sadly, I must."
"Most of the #web runs on #advertising, as it has for 20-plus years. You might think Mozilla would, say, buy and integrate an #adblocker. Acquiring #adblocking #companies has been a thing for a #decade. Other #browsers integrate ad-blocking, and you don't even need something controversial like #Brave – for instance, #VivaldiBrowser has offered it for years. Many of the #team behind #Vivaldi previously made #Opera, and it #blocked #ads too. (Soon afterwards, the company sold it to a #Chinese group.)
But no. Instead, Mozilla goes and buys an #ad firm and then removes its promise not to #sell your #data. Once again, it's as if the #leadership were actively trying to work out the worst direction to turn."
"The #AI trend is a cult now for many.
Whither Mozilla? Oh, it built a #bot into its docs #server in 2023, then promptly had to turn it off again. Its #chief product #officer was quite gung-ho about AI in early 2024. He left the company soon afterwards.

In 2024, Mozilla made more layoffs and announced it would invest in open source #AI. This year, Mozilla finally integrated a #vertical #tab bar into #Firefox and, you guessed it, built an AI #chatbot into it. You can, at least, turn it off."

#YouTube #ads are full of #scams and questionable financial advice by preying on #FinancialIlliterates that are #HornyForMoney.

Seriously, with all those "Matrix" refernces I wished the Wachowski Sisters or Village Roadshow Pictures or WB were to sue grifters like that.

Again: #AdBlocker are not just a necessity against #malvertising and #malware but an act of #SelfCare and #MutualDefense against #Disinformation campaigns incl. #hatespeech-based #propaganda.

Yes for once I am asking for advice: what's a good adblocker for Safari? I was using 1Block, but now I can't seem to download the new version. On laptop I'm using uBlock Origin with Firefox. Most of the adblockers in the Apple app store seem pretty scammy.

Has anyone had any experience with CertifID? I just had my first, as a property seller wishing proceeds to be wired to my bank.

Who designs a web app that’s broken by an #adblocker? And provides no instructions to prevent this failure? The buyers’ title company is actually paying money for this service, after we already showed up at our seller’s title co with photo IDs and a voided check matching our names and property address.

Kdenlive 25.04 released with AI-powered background removal plugin, OpenTimelineIO import/export, refactored audio thumbnail system, ability to change the duration of multiple adjacent clips in a single action and more:

(That background removal tool is actually a pretty good use of AI, and it runs locally, so no need to give Kdenlive Internet access.)
(The ability to change duration of multiple clips at once is also pretty useful, I might attempt to update Kdenlive to get that feature, and hope it doesn't break lol.)

Joplin 3.3 released with various accessibility improvements (keyboard navigation, screen reader support, higher contrast UI elements etc.), option to collapse or expand all notebook hierarchies with a single button, run multiple independent instances for better workspace management on desktop, new search dialog for quick linking of notes, Markdown auto-replacement in Rich Text Editor, improved focus handling in modals on mobile, support for attaching audio recordings to notes and enhanced voice typing on Android, redesigned "New Note" menu:

BetaNews · Brave open sources Cookiecrumbler to make cookie consent blocking smarterBrave just made a move that should make privacy enthusiasts pretty happy. The company has officially open sourced Cookiecrumbler, a tool designed to automatically detect and help block those obnoxious cookie consent banners you see across the Web. These pop-ups are not only annoying but, according to research, often track users even when they click reject. Cookiecrumbler aims to stop that nonsense while avoiding the headaches that can come with sloppy blocking rules.

@fesshole Pro-tip, install a local pi-hole on mobile devices (which leave your local network, which could have it's network wide pi-hole) so that not only browsers are protected, but the whole device. It also makes websites not detect you have an adblocker so you can browse freely.
