…At a time when #trade was largely financed in gold & silver, the mercantilists thought of it in terms of accumulating #wealth, or “#treasure.” #Trump thinks in terms of dollars rather than gold, but little rests on that distinction. In his remarks on Wed, he repeated his unfounded claim that #Canada was *subsidizing* the #US to the tune of $200B a year. (Trade payments aren’t subsidies, & last year the US deficit in trade on goods & services w/Canada was well under a $100B.)

Garage cleanup continues. Sniffed various cannisters, finding another 20L old diesel, some old petrol (meh), a giant coffee grinder, three meat grinders, winter car window washer fluid, a mysterious thick green fluid (???) and a clear thin fluid that smells weird.

And in a bag of what I thought was fertilizer, these things. Different oval shapes, polished, beveled edges, I believe made from the fake marble stuff used for gravestones. Heavy goth coasters?

An improvised table made from an old door, filled with a paper bag and cardboard box. And a number of strange black things. They're roughly oval or octagonal shaped, but each slightly different. The top surface is high gloss black marble while the edges and bottom are grey unpolished marble. It looks a lot like gravestone material.
