I wish everything was as solid and long-lasting as my #stereo.
It consists of a record player from 1992 (#Technics SL-MK #1210), a CD player and a tape recorder from 1995, and a tuner and an amplifier from 1997 (all by #Yamaha).

They have never faltered or failed me. They just work and sound like they did on day one.

My speakers are from 1976 and, for nostalgic reasons, I have never replaced them – although I guess it would make a difference in this case.

So, why do I need to do maintenance on this deck? Because it is 45 years old. Haven't touched the electronics on it. Power supply is over specced, all 4 voltage supplies are fused and in spec. Still, I will need to address the large electrolytic at some point.
Why do I still use it? 20hz-20khz on metal tape, direct drive motors, 69dB snr with dolby B and with outboard dbx, so quiet you would not think it is tape.

This gives access to the mechanical and rubber parts, yet is still functional so it can be tested. Fast forward and rewind barely engaged and play stopped because the lack of rotation of the take up hub. A bit of rubber renew and that'll buy me some time for the replacement idler tire to come in from Europe. I ordered one from two different places / countries to make sure I get one sooner than later. #tape #maintenance #Technics #cassette #repair #diy #electronics

Doing some maintenance on my #Technics RS-M88 professional tape deck. The nice thing about this deck is that it is designed for easy access for maintenance. Two thumb screws removes the clear door panel, four screws removes the cassette receptacle door itself, and after loosening the door rails, I can remove the aluminum back cover. This deck is direct drive, so no belts involved in the transport, but it does use a belt for the tape counter, an idler tire and a pressure roller. #tape #cassette

@Satori
#LP recording/pressing was "hi-tech." #Analog sound arguably superior to compressed digital we hear today. Infinite-"master disc is basically cutting shape of musical sound waves directly into discs of polyvinyl chloride–which is where the term vinyl comes from!" Have old #Technics turntable😊💕Some LPs. Got to say, they are a hoot. Just have to keep LPs clean. Keep the dust away. There's nothing like watching that needle track through grooves fm 60 yrs ago. 👏👏👏😊

VictrolaDoes Music Really Sound Better on Vinyl? | VictrolaEveryone knows that vinyl offers great sound quality, but is it really better than digital? Find out now from the experts at Victrola today.

New gear day: Found this 90s Technics SL-BD20D, almost mint condition, on Marketplace for $50.

It's identical to the original one I bought in 1999, which had a broken cover and no longer cued properly. I Frankensteined the two together and will keep the other for spare parts.

If you're into vinyl and looking for a reliable turntable, look for deals on these older Technics. Audio Technica makes replacement styluses and cartridges for them. #Vinyl, #Technics, #Turntables
