zen80 update: improved tests

Apart from the already substantial unit tests, we now have two additional and rather stringent tests:

  1. This test loads the ZX Spectrum 128 ROMs (0 and 1) and runs that machine's initialisation process. Then it shows a statistical analysis of the instruction coverage that's been executed during rom initialisation. (total percentage of different opcodes executed for each instruction group)

  2. The second big test implements traps as barebones CP/M shims, loads ZEXDOC.COM and runs its extensive stress test (this can be long).

Work is ongoing to support ZEXALL.COM as well, an even more stringent version of zexdoc that also tests undocumented registers and quirks of the Z80, one of the hardest tests known. This will be next, after I'm certain that this passes all ZEXDOC tests without a hitch. So far so good!

I am looking for a few testers for my app #Cloudodoro

Currently it is in #TestFlight from #Apple so if you have an #iPhone and want to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

The app is a #Pomodoro focused on a calmer, more relaxed atmosphere than others. I have #ADHD and am on the #Spectrum so not all things I try help me get focused, so this is why I made the app.

New #subreddit for #Autism.

R/AutismSafeHouse

This sub will NOT allow parents to post things like wishing their #autistic children dead, or talk about how much they hate their children for being autistic.
The purpose is to offer real support for folks on the #ASD #spectrum. It’s not a place for “autism moms” to post angry rants. They already have a sub for that.
So, if you’re #ActuallyAutistic, diagnosed or not, please feel free to join! reddit.com/r/AutismSafeHouse/s

Just contributed to the Issue 3 of the ZX Spectrum Next kickstarter! Looking forward for the accelerated version around December…

It is all (4 times!) fully backed now, but if you’re interested, now is the moment. And there is a translucent magenta case that might just be your thing…

Just have a look! 29 days to go…

@LaF0rge @kDelta @stman @Sempf espechally in places like #Germany where regulators like @BNetzA get record-breaking bids for #spectrum allocations solidly into the billions!

@LaF0rge @stman @kDelta @Sempf obviously that's why it was discontinued for a time in #Germany, as it was considered as obsolete as #HSCSD is in light of faster standards that - even without guaranteed bandwith - will yield higher throughput.

  • Obviously #CellBroadcast will necessitate a constant bandwith allocation for functionality as it's design is based upon repeating a message until it's transmissiom being removed.

Still, even in contended #spectrum this is manageable, espechally since most #MNOs only maintain vestigal #2G or #3G infrastructure solely for #emergency coverage and reliability, as most phones will call emergency services over 2G and 3G and not via #VoLTE.

  • To add insult to injury, most BSCs will downgrade to 2G-only service by default in case of power loss to maximize UPS range and in the case of #NewZealand even switch off all services but #SMS & #EmergencyServicesCalling to enshure people in need can get their calls out, as the population is instructed to use SMS for person-to-person communication (as SMS is a low-priority, non-realtime service using excess bandwith and thus not compete with calling like #EDGE and #CSD would.
Infosec.SpaceKevin Karhan :verified: (@kkarhan@infosec.space)@stman@mastodon.social well, there were *some commercial services* that used #CellBroadcast but for the most part it's *best feature* is the effective mass alerting of people in an area without needing them to *install yet another app* or *signup to yet another service*... - The [temporary] shutdown of #CellBroadcast caused hundreds of avoidable deaths [in Germany alone.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_European_floods#Germany) @kDelta@mastodon.ie @Sempf@infosec.exchange @LaF0rge@chaos.social @nitrokey@nitrokey.com @signalapp@mastodon.world @GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social

Will I find weird star colors in non-typical stars?

1st photo - Zeta Herculis and Beta Draconis - high metallicity stars. North is to the left and captures the keystone asterism in Hercules in the upper right of the frame and the head of Draco in the lower left. High metallicity stars have more absorption features in their spectra compared to low metallicity stars.

To my eye, they don't exhibit weird color that is different than all the other stars in the frame.

2nd photo - finder chart with these two stars circled in red.

3rd photo - Omicron Draconis is a star with emission lines in its spectrum. It's an RS Canum Venaticorum type of star and that is one of their defining characteristics. Again, it's color does not stand out as weird.

4th photo - finder chart.

I plan to image other emission line stars after monsoon ends.

A star with a weird color - Nova Lupi 2025 (V462 Lupi)

1st photo is not annotated. Can you find the nova?

2nd photo is annotated.

3rd photo was deliberately mis-focused so that stars were larger disks instead of small points. This makes it easier to see the color.

Note that there are plenty of orange stars and plenty of blue stars...but the nova has a unique color. To my eye it's a pale purple.

Why does the nova have a weird color?

4th image was taken from facebook.com/photo/?fbid=17712 it's a spectrum of the nova. Most stars have a blackbody radiation distribution, but novae (that's the Latin form, plural) have strong emission lines at discrete colors. That can make a weird color compared to most stars.

Image taken with a camera on a fixed tripod.
