#playingcards

Over the last week I have been writing rules/gameplay for a card game. Hoping to have the time to test the gameplay this weekend. If it plays as intended I'll post the game rules. It's a two player, 54 card, Bridge variant that has elements of Memory Bridge and German Whist.

I'm pretty excited, tbh.

🟢 Welp! After last night's High Frontier 4 All session (we finished it at 03:00!), some simpler board/card games were in order today, for a palate cleanse.

🟢 That's why today we resorted to the classics! Cribbage is very well known in the UK (I think also in the USA), but largely unknown in Romania. Thus, I had the pleasure of also teaching it to my friends. It first appeared in England in the XVIIth Century and the oldest rules we have for it date from 1662.

🟢 Even though I have a large collection of modern board games and card games, I can't deny that traditional card games still hold up and are incredibly fun. And I don't need to do any lengthy set-up: just pull out a pack of cards and hours of fun guaranteed! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to convince them to also play some French Tarot.

Today's #dmgBoost spotlight is "Songwriter's Notebook" by Matt Hanna, musician and #gameDesigner.

It's a proper flip-and-write #boardgame with traditional #playingCards that generates you a melody contour and themes. A version for our #wiki stresses the performance aspect, but you can see a more theme-based ruleset in this #youtube vid:

Question: Does the world need or want a deck of playing cards in Gallifreyan, the language of the Timelords of Doctor Who?

During pandemic I taught myself how to write in the "conlang" for gallifreyan shermansplanet.com/gallifreyan and recently I combined that with my love of playing cards.

I'm about 1/4 of the way through with the designs, but was wondering if I should go all the way and make it for real?

Thoughts?

I just spend 20mins to find the a passage from a book by a Norwegian author that I read as a child JUST to make a point about the international fixed calendar AND decks of cards on another platform.

This probably is the most obscure little tidbit of knowledge I will have shared this year.

I think since I've already put in the time, you should also suffer this knowledge. You're welcome.

Welp, new instance it is, better redo my #introduction.

Hello there, I'm Robin (yes I've heard the jokes, stahp it). I'm a simple #nonbinary #demisexual #furry, #gamer and full time citizen of #sweden. I like #tech stuff, enjoy most kinds of #games (#RetroGames, #BoardGames, #TTRPG, etc.) and on lucky days I'm productive enough to make characters and maybe write up a little something :nkoWhoaa:.

Other than that I collect (read: hoard) #PlayingCards and physical games, have nearly a decade experience in the #scout movement and I'm one of those people who treat #coffee as a hobby.

If any of these things (or if the tags below has let me slink into your home feed) do feel free to reach out. Not the best at doing so myself so it'd be very appreciated :blobfoxheart:
