For those who aren't familiar, #mesh infrastructure like this enables encrypted texting in a locality, with many nodes like this making up an ad-hoc network.
It's completely independent from internet & cell service. Since it's solar, it doesn't require a working electrical grid. It's also very low-power.
Reliability of message delivery is not super awesome, but it's useful people-owned infrastructure in a time of extreme weather and fascism.
A 'mesh' is just a variety of describing a network, one which is generally self-organizing. As you can guess, the definition is extremely flexible.
#Tox is an example of a #p2p #mesh used to create a message exchange network focused on #privacy. It uses e2ee, and allows exchange of instant messages, as well as e2ee video calls. There are multiple implementations, rather like the Mastodon protocol has multiple platforms.

EasyTier – P2P mesh VPN written in Rust using Tokio
I attached a SenseCap T1000-E credit card sized tracker to my lovely but very naughty dog, Rita via a small pouch on her collar. When she escapes out of our grounds on her adventures to visit neighbors etc we are able to keep track on where she is via a map on the Meshcore web app.
No monthly fees, initial cost €42 for the T1000-E and €20 for the Lilygo Lora V2.1 attached to laptop. I have contributed to the developers of the software.

It's also very functional. The holster really locks the device in place. There's no risk of it falling out just by moving around.

Make sure to update your Meshtastic devices to at least 2.6.2 or newer!

Über meine Idee, eine deutschsprachige Community für Mesh-Netzwerke wie Meshtastic, LXMF (Reticulum), MeshCore und weitere auf Discord zu erstellen, war ich ja nie so richtig glücklich.
Aber alle aktuellen und auch die zukünftigen Mesh-Netzwerke unter „einen Hut“ zu bringen, war und ist nun einmal, sowohl aus administrativer (!) als auch aus Nutzersicht, sinnvoll.
Mir wurde dann die Idee zugetragen (danke noch einmal dafür!), dies doch mit einem Space und Unterräumen auf Matrix zu realisieren. Diese Möglichkeit kannte ich bisher noch nicht, hatte sie aber gleich aufgegriffen und in die Tat umgesetzt.
Tatsächlich gefällt mir diese Lösung doch wesentlich besser, als die Umsetzung auf einem Discord-Server.
