Finn<p>Sorry for all the post about home brew Meshtastic antennas... but I made another one.</p><p>It's the same skirted dipole as in my previous post: <a href="https://toot.fan/@finn/115029240863609782" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">toot.fan/@finn/115029240863609</span><span class="invisible">782</span></a></p><p>Only difference is that I have used a 15mm copper pipe and I have cut it 1mm shorter than calculated, that one millimeter will be added by to cap again.</p><p>Works well, NanoVNA shows great values! Sees more nodes compared to default antenna and RSSI values are about 5 dBm better.</p><p><a href="https://toot.fan/tags/Meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Meshtastic</span></a></p>
Alec Perkins<p>Interesting reading on lessons learned from amateur radio and mesh networking, how the Meshtastic community is relearning them, and some new technologies that might provide a more reliable approach. <a href="https://www.zeroretries.org/i/170507037/hard-lessons-learned-what-not-to-do" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">zeroretries.org/i/170507037/ha</span><span class="invisible">rd-lessons-learned-what-not-to-do</span></a> <a href="https://perkins.pub/tags/Meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Meshtastic</span></a> <a href="https://perkins.pub/tags/AREDN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AREDN</span></a></p>

One of them will be crucial. Encrypted ground to overhead plane is pretty badass.</p>

It can be used off-grid to communicate in situations where cell phones are not available, for example. I'm still learning how to use it. I have connected it to the MQTT server run by Chicagoland Mesh and have been checking out the group chat channel by replying to people sending test messages to let them know I saw them. I did see a message sent from an airplane passing through the Chicago area skies this morning which was pretty great."</p><p>This is awesome! </p><p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/NeoCities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NeoCities</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Meshtastic</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/LoRa" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LoRa</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Chicago" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Chicago</span></a></p>
Finn<p>Meshtastic brings you to awesome places. I have crossed Dybbøl many times on the way to Sønderborg but I have never stopped there. </p><p>Because of it's high elevation I stopped there some days ago to test my new antenna and catch some nodes. </p><p>It's an awesome view! </p><p>And at this time I directly communicated with a Meshtastic node 24 km far away which is my personal record!</p><p><a href="https://toot.fan/tags/Photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Photography</span></a> <a href="https://toot.fan/tags/Denmark" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Denmark</span></a> <a href="https://toot.fan/tags/Meshtastic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Meshtastic</span></a></p>
