At FOSDEM 2011 I attended the talk of @ossington about the #libregraphicsmagazine. I met her, @aiscarvalho and @rlafuente afterwards. It was a pleasure getting to know them and meeting them at FOSDEM the following years.

The talk:

The video:

I cannot tell what gem the libre graphics magazine is.

They lived the future 15 years ago.

I understand it to be an optional, decentralised spec for users on participating fediverse server instances to opt-in to discovery of search services.

I won’t respond to comments about whether you think search is a good or bad idea - the page has a video, link to spec and the slides presented at #FOSDEM.

How browsers REALLY load Web pages

> This talk is a deep dive into how browsers decide when to load a specific resource, and some ways in which you can influence them to modify their behaviour (so you can make sure that important LCP image is definitely one of the first things to come in!). We will look at A LOT of different waterfalls and discuss why each looks the way it does, why browsers often make different decisions, and how to solve common problems fosdem.org/2025/schedule/event #webDev #FOSDEM

Since 25 years, there is a big conference on Open Source and Free Software in Europe that couldn't share the list of participants with authorities, even if they wanted to. Because there is no registration, no tickets, no waiting list. Why I love #FOSDEM, reason #5409

The European Space Agency (ESA) operates a constellation of satellites known as the Copernicus Sentinels. Collectively the system generates terabytes of Earth Observation (EO) data daily. Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE) is a free, public platform that provides access to Copernicus data and a range of analysis and visualization tools. A talk delivered at FOSDEM 2025 dives into the details:

The Flow Battery Research Collective (FBRC) are building an open source battery. Technology writer Koen Vervloesem did a nice write-up about their #FOSDEM talk in the Energy devroom. FBRC works on redox flow batteries which are better suited for long-term, stationary storage and less hazardous than Li-ion batteries. FBRC plan to democratize flow battery technology by developing an open source flow battery, starting with a development kit.

Google has signed a contract with Israel to supply Tech support used in the Palestinian genocide. A US$1.2 billion deal, with Amazon in the mix.
It's not the first time Google has been implicated in this type of crime.

Google obeys the every command of Trump-musk fascism, the Gulf of Mexico is just the one example that makes you laugh.

So when you have google main sponsor of FOSDEM and debian going dancing to GSoC, and many others in the FLOSS and Open movement doing the same,
I say to you straight out:
You're embracing fascism, you're legitimizing genocide, you're part of the problem!

One of the talks I would have presented at #FOSDEM, had I not fallen ill, was on #VirtualOrchestration, and particularly my personal workflow in that regard. It sucked not being able to talk about it in person there, so I decided to write about it instead.

It's a long post, but hopefully interesting enough... I'm particularly interested to hear about how you do it instead (if you do), and if my approach makes sense. Boosts welcome!

Sadly, I got COVID-19 at #FOSDEM and missed the last day (and my own keynote!).
I noticed you're replying in this thread where I was asking to chat with Affiliate Reps who had questions (since they're my constituents). If you are, I'd like to chat offline in a more in depth conversation.
Also happy to answer your questions here in public if that suits you better, I'm just very longwinded so this format is tough for me!

@bert_hubert at #fosdem this year i attended the government collaboration devroom and digital sovereignty was discussed as a way forward (sovereignty is a difficult term in britain, i think i prefer jurisprudence). the software architecture of exciting initiatives like #openDesk is interesting because of horizontal rather than vertical integration (as with older corporate solutions), making it much easier for small software companies to contribute to government.
