So not sure what tags to use here so some recommendations would be appreciated.
Have an electric dryer available (LG 5955G). It is in working condition and being replaced due to having ordered a package set as my washer crossed the rainbow circuit board.
I do have it for sale but if someone with a need for it in the Ottawa area wants it, it's free for the taking.
I'm not able to deliver it. So pickup only
(fascinating that there are no electronics in these things, it's all just mechanical, temperature activated contacts and a mechanical timer, plus a motor... big control system with no microprocessors. If all the conditions are met -- below low temp, below max temp, no blown fuse -- then the circuit is complete, and there is power to the gas/igniter circuit. If conditions not met -- max temp sensor too hot, low temp sensor above threhold -- it doesn't fire off the igniter). No CPU cycles involved. #random #dryer #pondering
Hmm, dryer has been working but I'm still not happy with it.
High limit thermostat is supposed to cut out at 240F (gas turns on... shutoff when it hits max temp... cycles as long as low temp thermostat still connected). However, the FLIR says it's cutting off somewhere between 120F and 140F, thus the extended drying time. Adjusting the gas flow higher just results in quicker cutoff, gas flow lower results in slower cutoff, but same long cycle. New high limit thermostat purchased, hopefully that is it (thankfully, $8). It's just a simple heat activated, mechanical bimetallic disc.
One more part swapped in The Dryer of Theseus. Radiant flame sensor, which detects when the igniter is hot enough, completing a circuit to allow gas to flow, replaced. Dryer is working, but cycles times slow. #dryeroftheseus #Dryer #repair #diy #ReduceRepairReuse
Saga of the dryer continues. Rip in the felt around the door was causing metal on metal contact. Local parts guru found the replacement felt and insisted on giving it to me for $0.00. Hope this fixes it, otherwise we're moving on to replacing the motor ($200). #dryer #appliance #repair
Because it's Labor day, disassembled the squeaky dryer (again) to try to figure out the source of the squeak. I think I'm buying new rollers tomorrow. (hoping the local appliance parts genius guy has OEM replacement, the online options look like they're in the "random-chinese-name" category nowadays). Cleaned and greased what I thought was the squeaky roller, but it still squeaks... now leading me to think the plastic AROUND the metal bearing is what is spinning and squeaking #dryer #repair
I had to reset my dryer today. It seems that changing the WiFi password is not something LGE expect to happen #LGE #Dryer #SmartHome #Automation #HomeAssistant #WiFi #Security
Huh, #TIL #HeatPump dryers exist and don’t vent air outside. Use about half the energy load of traditional dryers that vent outside. Take longer but don’t steal your conditioned air (big perk in winter) and don’t damage clothes as much since the fabric isn’t toasted every cycle. And lint collection is limited to the unit, easier to maintain.
Discussion below at this deals site, wonder if #massachusetts has any rebates or credits available, will keep in mind when our dryer closer to end of life.

But what to do about the unreadable 12-pt, thin light grey-on-silver #Helvetica-ish text on the selector buttons?
How can I make the #washer and #dryer #accessible?

My parents' #dryer broke. They called for service (it's less than 2 years old). The service people wanted to troubleshoot it remotely over the dryer's built-in WiFi connection.
My dad (80) had been trying to get the dryer online for a few days, and was feeling really bad about himself that he couldn't make it work and didn't understand why.
It turns out he was doing it right. 3 of the steps in the manual/online FAQ are wrong.
