A number of Dr Seuss political cartoons have resurfaced in recent weeks, and focus on the 1940s isolationist movement known as “America First.” The phrase has more recently been marshalled by the Trump administration as a slogan for its populist foreign policy agenda, which puts the interest of specific American people before all others.

I have had editorial feedback and productive conversations-and some differences— about cartoons I have submitted for publication, but in all that time I've never had a cartoon killed because of who or what I chose to aim my pen at.
