Teddybear Cholla (Cylindropuntia bigelovii) stems detach easily and can take root forming a stand of clones. Desert woodrats collect these “cholla balls” to armor their nests, creating a prickly defense against predators.

In this close-up photo, you can see that San Pedro cacti have 6 to 8 ribs. The plant grows more ribs as it gets bigger. Of course the symbolic of the number of ribs can be of importance during ceremonies. I heard some have as many as 13, 17...!
Notice also the nice green-blue colour.
