"Shadows of the Night" is a song composed by D.L. Byron explicitly for the 1980 film #TimesSquare, which tells the story of two young runaways in New York City. The song did not make it into the movie and Byron's own record label rejected it, claiming the song "wasn't commercial enough." It was released as a single by #HelenSchneider in 1981 as well as on her album Schneider with the Kick. According to Byron, Schneider's version went 5× platinum in #Germany.

"Right now, Klemons said, the stage is an uncomfortable space for #Jews to be sharing due to the war in #Israel and the rise in #antisemitism in the states – a reality that Klemons faced when someone spit in her face in #TimesSquare for repping the Star of David.

“The artist community tends to be left-leaning, and right now the left is a little bit of a scary place for the Jews to be living in,” Klemons said. “I just make it my job to say ‘I’m the same person I always was. I’m the same #Jewish person living among you.'"

This is #YongeDundasSquare, the #TimesSquare of #Toronto (or Times Square is the Yonge-Dundas Square of #NewYorkCity, to fix our perspective away from the #USA)

What we see here is an #advertisement attempting to sell a product

You do that in #advertising by appealing to a feeling or thought the audience has

And what the #ad is appealing to here is a direct result of a #political movement in the USA called "Make #America Great Again" aka #MAGA:

I wonder how that's going?

🤔

@suqdiq I'd go a step further and say it's #code for #marginalizing an entire #group

or #subset

of the #HumanClass

#progressives, or say, #free #thinkers

that #think for #themselves having #awoke aka #woke from their #slumber much like #Nada did in #TheyLive after having put on the #sunglasses instead of #following the #crowd #asleep

#mindlessly #consuming #conforming

They are free, #FreeThinkers

#marching to a #new #beat ( #ideals )

Typically, those #antiWoke are #white

But there's plenty of #religous #factions that fall into the anti-woke #crowd for the #shared #sentiment of being #different

Plus, it's just easier saying woke than it is #supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Could you #imagine if people broke into #song like that in #mke ???

You'd hear, This ain't #nyc and you're not in #TimesSquare #FancyPants

So, #powerOff #Smiley !!

I was in #TimesSquare just over 3 weeks ago.. We walked from 42nd and broadway all the way to 50th & 7th. And, as I just confirmed with my 17yr old son who was with me, we saw exactly zero migrants with military weapons.

Lots of obnoxious tourists walking way too slowly, and people hawking utterly crappy shirts, hats l, and junk… but no migrants with guns.

I dunno, but sure seems to me like this guy is demented and out of his god damned mind.

X (formerly Twitter)Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) on XTrump claims that migrants with military weapons are taking over Times Square in New York "but we have guys that want to confront them. And they're gonna be allowed to confront them. And we're gonna get them the hell out of here."

Supersized signs reign over New York's Times Square, creating a place where advertising becomes entertainment. The MIT Press Reader tells the story of Oscar J. Gude, the man who invented the enormous electric sign he called the "spectacular," starting with the Trimble Whiskey sign in 1904. Electric advertising “literally forces its announcement on the vision of the uninterested as well as the interested passerby,” he once said. “Everybody must read them, and absorb them, and absorb the advertiser’s lesson willingly or unwillingly.”

A block from PABT - where the bus terminates - is #TimesSquare, the mecca of consumerism. The #billboards aren't that impressive as I'd imagined, but the crowds during Memorial Day long weekend (and those cartoon mascots selling photo-ops) certainly are.

Tonight: fabulous evening of genre-defiance with the Kronos Quartet + Ghost Train Orchestra with special guests David Byrne, Joan as Policewoman, Karen Mantler, Marissa Nadler, playing the music of Moondog in various configurations. So many special moments, what a great show at Town Hall. Worth the trip to Times Square

Pretty amusing video featuring a self-professed geek.

The bemused looks on the faces of passers by in #TimesSquare remind me of quizzical expressions people had when they first saw others "talking to themselves" wearing AirPods or whatever.

If for nothing else, watch it to the end to hear what a profound realization the guy had while using #Apple #VisionPro, and what a sage advice he gives at the end.
