MICHELADA

1½ oz lime juice
2 dashes Maggi liquid seasoning
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
2 dashes Tabasco sauce
12 oz Mexican lager beer

Garnish: salted rim, lime wheel
Method: First, salt the rim of the glass by rubbing it with a cut-open lime and rolling it in a shallow bowl filled with Tahín or salt. Now build the drink in glass, adding ingredients in the order listed. Once the beer is in, garnish with a lime wheel and add a few small ice cubes then serve.

Maggi seasoning is really easy to find in Germany, but if not by you then soy sauce is a decent substitute. Tabasco also up for substitution according to your prefs. What isn’t negotiable is drinking this in the sunshine!

One more mod if you’re feeling sassy is to serve with a side of danger, a neat shot alongside that someone can add as they wish. Tequila and Mezcal are excellent choices!

I was shopping last night, and thought, hey! We use a lot of salt in this country! I wonder where we get all that salt from! There’s no way we’re going to see dominoes from recent world events, right?!

Let’s find out.

As of 2024 data, the USA produced ~42 million tons of newly-available salt in 2023.

~16 million tons were newly-imported. $651 million worth.

The Maras salt mine has its roots in the pre-Inca era. Evidence suggests that the local Wari and Inca civilizations were the first to utilize the site's natural salt resources. During the Inca Empire, the salt produced here was considered a valuable commodity and was used for everything from food preservation to ritual purposes.

Even today, the Maras salt mine is an important source for the local community. The harvested salt is sold all over the world.
The visualy impressive landscape of the site, with its geometric patterns of salt ponds, has also become a popular tourist attraction.
This unique salt-producing site consists of over 5,000 small, terraced ponds. Now in the rainy season, the ponds are more brown in color due to the muddy bottom. During the dry season, the ponds are much whiter, as is the harvested salt.

Due to the use of #salt and brine for public safety during the recent extreme winter weather, as well as ongoing #drought conditions, #NewJersey residents may have noticed a salty taste in their tap #water. Despite the slight change in taste, New Jersey American Water wants to assure its customers that the water it provides continues to meet all health-based primary drinking water standards.

Because Broadcom migrated SaltStack over to their legacy IP only infrastructure, the SaltStack team cannot provide IPv6 support for their packages anymore… great.

At least the Salt team did their best, pointed to their air-gapped environment documentation.

Fuck you Broadcom.

Spouse: What did you just do?

Me: I needed to taste the floor.

S: What the hell?

M: I want to know if that is salt or soap residue from my attempt to clean off the salt.

(I had wiped the floor with my finger and then licked my finger.)

Try as we might to not track #salt inside of our #Chicago home, we track in salt. And the dog doesn’t even try to avoid doing so.

Advice on how to #clean salt off from a wood floor on a regular basis is welcome.
