@Linux @eu_os

What is incorrect? Can you be more specific?

#ReactOS uses US-based Github.

I think that's ok if the exit cost is low. Same for #EU_OS. Once people start using it, they may consider to have a build server in the EU. Do we now need to change the architecture because of this? I do not think so.

@WeirdWriter Hi Robert, good question & one I don't know offhand (if anyone does, please share!) Looking on reactos.org/faq/#can-i-install I found "Can I install ReactOS and run any software compatible with Windows on it?
Probably yes. However we highly recommend to check first if your favourite app runs in ReactOS. ReactOS is still an on-going project and not all the apps and drivers runs perfect on it."

Are any of our #FOSS / #Linux friends involved in #ReactOS able to share experiences please?

ReactOS 0.4.15 released

It's been over three years since the last ReactOS release, but today, in honour of the first commit to the project by the oldest, still active contributor, the project released ReactOS 0.4.15. Of course, there's been a steady stream of nightly releases, so it's not like the project stalled or anything, but having a proper release is always nice to have.

We are pleased to announce the

Some folks think I am some sort of #Linux worship fiend.

Nothing further from the truth; I simply admire that, in an age of near absolute #enshittification of most commercial software, the whole #FOSS thing seems to prove itself, time and time again, as a process (community created, refined and supported) that generates Things That Work. Because their objective IS to make it work, not generate "value for shareholders" and help CEOs buy their fifth yacht.

I have oodles and buckets of things to pick at, regarding Linux. Monolithic kernel?? Really?? What is this, 1960s? You manage memory HOW? Oh. The list goes on and on, don't get me started.

I was a serious enthusiast of the myriad of alternative OSes, in the Cambrian-like explosion of diversity of the 90s. So much diverse, curious, ingenious, brilliant solutions and notions! #BeOS, #OS2 #QNX (ok, 1980s), #Plan9OS, #ReactOS, to name a few out of so, so many other great Alt OSs of the time...

Compared to those, Linux seemed to actually freeze and stall evolution, sticking to the limitations of the vision by Torvalds (sorry, man, it's true, plenty of admiration for the guy, but dropped the ball on that kernel) at the time of its inception.

However, being the mainstay of FOSS, I use it, champion it, and defend it against ANYTHING commercial.

Until someone truly resurrects BeOS (eeeeh #Haiku ... eh....) lol

There.

Played a bit with the latest build of ReactOS, which recreates the Windows 2003 Server APIs, and can run Windows apps. The in-built apps work well, and the OS starts at just 49 MB of RAM usage, but neither of the third party apps from their app store got installed or worked, and were b0rking the system during installation, so I couldn't test it further.

ReactOS details its new graphical installer

The ReactOS project is working on a new graphical installer to replace the older, text-mode one. In the first blog post about this effort, from December 2023, developer hbelusca details their work on setupapi, the module that enables "reading and processing INF files, moving/copying files from an installation source media to a target, supporting als

ReactOS gets initial UEFI and NT6+ application support

The ReactOS project has published another newsletter filled with news about their progress, and two things stand out. First, there's now initial support for booting using UEFI.

Work has been underway since the beginning of the year to transition FreeLoader, our default bootloader for ReactOS, to support UEFI on x86 and AMD64

ReactOS gets support for UEFI booting

After several months of (public) work, ReactOS can now use UEFI boot.

But that's the major changes planned for this PR. As of the state of this PR UEFI boot will operate as long as you have a serial port you should be able to test it.

Some more boot fixes will come down the road but this covers 85% of devices we've ran into.

In fact, they've even mad

ReactOS makes progress on x86-64 port and more

The last ReactOS release is already twp years old, and there seemingly hasn't been any news since. Of course, the project has not stalled, and in a newsletter the project details the progress that's been made since 2021.

In the last year and during the beginning of 2023, the ReactOS developers and contributors alike are working on many part
