If you're interested in reading an excellent article by one of my neighbors about the ongoing travesty that we're experiencing:

"... With proper oversight, the heartbreak these and so many other seniors are experiencing might be avoided. Too often, because they do not know where to turn, and because they typically lack power, they suffer in silence indignities and threats to their well-being and safety. This needs to change. All seniors deserve to have an advocate—a caring and neutral ombudsman or counsel who understands their needs and vulnerability.

They need someone with a fucking heart."

The Greylock Glass · Williamstown Seniors Displaced, Disillusioned, and DisgustedNine years ago, elderly and disabled folks who had signed leases for apartments in Highland Woods in Williamstown were told that, due to burst plumbing, they would be unable to move in for what was…

This wasn’t how they expected to spend their golden years.

It's more common than you would realize.

“I think this situation can happen to anyone,” said [Melea] Blanchard, [manager of Catholic Charities’ Homeless Elders Program], whose case workers help with everything from Social Security paperwork to emergency health care. “We have all kinds of people from all walks of life come through our doors. There’s no one reason … and it’s not through any fault of their own. It’s more common than you would realize.”

An internal #SocialSecurity Administration (SSA) memo, sent on March 13 and obtained by Popular Information, details proposed changes to the claims process that would debilitate the agency, cause significant processing delays, and prevent many Americans from applying for or receiving benefits. The memo, authored by Acting Deputy SSA Commissioner Doris Diaz, purports to be motivated by a desire to mitigate "fraud risks." popular.info/p/exclusive-memo- #Doge #maga #trump #pensions #economy #elderly

Popular Information · EXCLUSIVE: Memo details Trump plan to sabotage the Social Security AdministrationBy Judd Legum

Headline: The Trump Administration Has Made 150 Million American Workers Newly Vulnerable to Workplace Discrimination

Source: Center for American Progress

From the article: "Essentially, all employees and job seekers, a total of approximately 153 million Americans, benefit from the protections the EEOC provides. The Equal Pay Act—a law requiring equal pay for equal work that the EEOC enforces—covers virtually all employers, while other laws enforced by the EEOC apply to all but the smallest employers. Whether they work in the private sector or for the government, practically all employees and those applying for jobs are protected by the EEOC against illegal employer actions" (Annotations removed for clarity)
