#monetization

Over time I have noticed a steep decline in my #youtube channel #monetization , yet I see people with inferior channels and even video and acting quality make serious money. For me, knowledge and presentation of knowledge in a digestible is key to videos I want to watch which means I'm in a small bubble of a wider world of human raw vulnerability channels.
One of the big reasons I grew at all in my #atheist days was that I gave direct raw vulnerable first hand accounts of my negative (and a few positive) experiences with #religion and how I grew out of that into a better person. I also was showing my face, my awkwardness and my rough edge with minimal edits.
As videos got more professional over time and trying to keep up with that got more difficult, I shifted over to image based videos fully and haven't had my face on cam for probably 3-4 years now.
I feel like if I want to go forward at all, especially if it comes to making money, I will need to go back on camera and dilute the amount of information I put into one video to make it more digestible from a trusted vulnerable face that a video I want to watch which is a information dense video with as much knowledge and nuance packed in as possible, but then again I'm on the #autism #spectrum and most normies don't enjoy that at all. I play almost all videos at 2x speed, unless the accent gets in the way.
I'm going to have to commit or not, but I will make that decision after I'm done with the majority of my solarpunkusa channel topics.
I have a feeling that these vulnerable videos are much more of a draw because people are so #lonely and don't know how to make friends, so they rely on parasocial relationships to get that same fix. Sustainable #communities have knowledgeable seniors you know how to interact with without effort, most don't know how to have those kinds of relationships. Just going to have to figure out how to blend leftish politics and personal vulnerability together.

I would pay for a #Gnome account that would let me sync my desktop calendar events with my phone and my phone photos with my desktop in a super simple way.

Yes, I know about NextCloud and Syncthing, but please do not try to reply to me saying they are simple to set up and keep going!

Seeing as Gnome need better #monetization. But seeing as Ubuntu One failed, I won't say this is a certain win. Just saying I'd pay for it.

I'm contemplating whether it's worth delving into BlueSky. On one hand, their product is noticeably more convenient compared to Mastodon. On the other hand, what is BlueSky really? What is their strategy? Having secured $8 million in a seed round, they've entered a predictable game. Despite their current promises, this may lead to standard recommendation algorithms aimed at increasing advertising volume. As an entrepreneur, I understand the need to build a monetization model, and there's nothing wrong with that. But the question is: will BlueSky become yet another mass-market product that sooner or later ends up in the hands of another Elon Musk, as happened with Twitter? So I've decided for myself: BlueSky is interesting, but it's not worth fully transitioning from Mastodon just yet.

I'm not particularly interested in monetization on social media, but will definitely keep an eye on the work that @bart, @quillmatiq, and the rest of the @subclub team are doing in this area.

Really want to see fediverse to remain sustainable and appreciate that folks are working towards that goal.

Roads are not financed with ads or donations. Neither are water mains, waste treatment plants, power lines, train tracks, schools, and so much more.

The world is going to shit for many reasons, but one of them is that online tools must have ads to survive, and free software tools don't get nearly enough donations.

Maybe it's time to finance more of our digital infrastructure trough taxes?
