True to character, Donald Trump is already
flouting ethics laws and norms even before he takes office as president in 2025.
The president-elect is 
accepting secret donations to fund his transition
while refusing to sign ethics pledges or deliver an ethics plan mandated by the Presidential Transitions Act.
The transition also has not signed an agreement with the Federal Bureau of Investigation that would allow the agency to do background checks on Trump nominees.
The transition has missed deadlines in September and October despite transition team leaders #Howard #Lutnick and #Linda #McMahon promising to sign memorandums of understanding with the Biden White House that would facilitate the outgoing administration’s collaboration with Trump’s transition team.
According to The New York Times, the Trump transition has privately created an ethics code and conflict-of-interest guidance for transition staff,
but those documents do not include a legal requirement — a statement regarding how Trump will handle conflicts of interest while in office

Proximity to sexual abuse and scandal increasingly looks like a prerequisite for joining Trump’s upcoming Cabinet.
President-elect Donald Trump made yet another surprising pick on Tuesday,
naming former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO #Linda #McMahon as his intended nominee for education secretary.
McMahon, along with her husband, #Vince #McMahon, helped turn the WWE into the pervasive entertainment product that has become intertwined with modern North American culture.
Trump was a good friend to the McMahons during this time, even getting in the ring for the “Battle of the Billionaires” in 2007.
Linda McMahon stepped down from WWE in 2009 and launched herself in conservative politics,
serving on the Connecticut State Board of Education and running two unsuccessful campaigns for Senate in 2010 and 2012.
She then became a Republican megadonor, and was rewarded with an administrator position at the Small Business Administration in Trump’s first-term Cabinet.
On Tuesday, she was rewarded once again.
“Linda will use her decades of Leadership experience, and deep understanding of both Education and Business, to empower the next Generation of American Students and Workers, and make America Number One in Education in the World,” Trump wrote in a statement.
“We will send Education BACK TO THE STATES, and Linda will spearhead that effort.”
But much like Trump Cabinet picks #Pete #Hegseth and #Matt #Gaetz, McMahon has troubling skeletons in her closet.
The WWE has long been known for its highly questionable, borderline abusive work environment.
Linda McMahon and Vince McMahon
—from whom she is now reportedly separated
—are being sued by five anonymous plaintiffs who served as “ring boys,” essentially teenage stagehands.
The ring boys allege that they were being sexually abused by WWE wrestlers Pat Patterson and Terry Garvin.
The suit states that both Linda and Vince knew exactly what was happening to the ring boys but did little, if anything, to stop it.
Vince faces even more damaging allegations of sexual assault, trafficking, and more.
And although these are separate from Linda, almost all of these accusations date from when Linda was leading the WWE.
Trump has yet to comment on the allegations.
Linda McMahon also falsely claimed in 2009 on a candidate questionnaire for the Connecticut Board of Education that she had a bachelor’s degree in education,
-- when she only has a certificate.
Per The Washington Post’s recap of the incident, she resigned from the board as soon as she heard that local journalists intended to make her error public,
but claimed the timing of her resignation was merely coincidental.
If confirmed as education secretary, McMahon will be charged with carrying out Trump’s plan for the Department of Education:
specifically, to kill it completely.

Trump, during a rambling two-hour live-stream rollout on X,
struggled to describe how exactly the new business would work,
or even when it would launch.
“Crypto is one of those things we have to do,” he said.
“Whether we like it or not.”
By then, Lutnick’s sphere of influence had moved well beyond bitcoin.
In October, he told the Financial Times that appointees in a second Trump Administration would be subject to a strict 
“loyalty” test
to avoid the kinds of senior aides who sought to constrain Trump during his first term.
“Those people were not pure to his vision,” Lutnick said.
“We’re going to give people the role based on their capacity
—and their fidelity and loyalty to the policy, as well as to the man.”

Journalist #Linda #Tirado is dying after being shot by cops while covering the George Floyd protests.
Her work told the story of poverty from the inside out.
It started when Tirado covered a George Floyd protest in Minneapolis in 2020.
She was shot in the face with a rubber bullet by a police officer.
While rubber bullets, law enforcement assures us, are nonlethal, the force of a shot can fracture skulls.
Tirado lost her sight in one eye,
and over the last few years the full extent of her injury became clear.
She also had brain damage and it was getting worse.
And now, as her recent co-authored Substack informs us,
“she is dying. Slowly, painfully, and with none of the dignity she’s earned and all of the TBI-induced dementia that’s stealing her limited time left with her kids.”
She’s still with us, however. So we wanted to take this chance to honor her, as she has honored others.

While Heritage’s ill-fated #Project2025 has gotten all the headlines, another outside group has been quietly plugging away at transition efforts with much less fanfare.
The America First Policy Institute ( #AFPI )
has (smartly) avoided #Heritage’s braggadocio -- but has similarly done mountains of #unofficial #transition work while maintaining close ties to Trump:
#Linda #McMahon chairs the group’s board, and CEO #Brooke #Rollins is Trump’s former Domestic Policy Council director and has been personally in touch with the former president.
Operating outside the Trump campaign, 
AFPI has interviewed more than 1,000 potential administration hires, drafted scores of executive actions Trump could quickly sign and solicited recommendations for the first 100 days of a second Trump term.
“AFPI is not becoming the transition,” one insider told Hailey and Meridith. “But by virtue of how they are situated and that we are in a very late timeline for this work, AFPI and the transition may be a distinction without a difference.”
Not everyone is happy with the arrangement.
In GOP circles, we’re told, AFPI is seen less as a visionary policy shop than a #ragtag collection of operatives.
And Democrats will certainly seize on the group’s associations with 2020 #election #denialism and, a la Project 2025, their support for other #hard-#right positions
There are at least six major #protests planned on the streets of Chicago during the Democratic National Convention.
The biggest is planned for the first day, #Monday, when “tens of thousands” are expected to march just blocks from the United Center,
where Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will give their acceptance speeches.
The “family-friendly march” is organized under a pro-Palestinian umbrella coalition that includes groups devoted to a variety of causes.
Organizers are busing in protesters from Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana and Wisconsin, and activists are also coming in from New York and California, too.
For the activists organizing for the DNC, any hesitation about whether to be disruptive diminished soon after Harris confronted protesters at a rally in Michigan on her battleground state tour.
“Everyone’s voice matters, but I am speaking now. I am speaking now,” she said to the demonstrators who interrupted her address.
The interaction is fueling the pro-Palestinian protesters as they gear up for the convention.
“After she yelled at protesters, the blush started to come off the rose,” said #Joe #Iosbaker, a protest organizer and a member of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Oppression.
The group has been behind 48 protests in Chicago, nearly one every week, since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel that erupted in the war in Gaza.
The switch-up at the top of the Democratic ticket had prompted a conversation in the pro-Palestinian movement about its tactics. Harris, who called for a cease-fire earlier than some others in the party, made some activists wonder about taking a softer approach with the new Democratic nominee.
“There is admittedly a change of tone and for many, a sense of a breath of fresh air,” said #Linda #Loew, an organizer for Bodies Outside of Unjust Laws coalition, which has more than 40 organizations endorsing a march in Chicago on Sunday ahead of the convention.

Donald Trump's Truth Social is set to become part of a publicly traded company after a long-delayed merger was approved.
On Friday, a shell company created solely to buy Truth Social's parent company, Trump Media & Technology Group, approved the merger, The New York Times reported.
Trump's net worth is set to jump more than $3 billion from the deal, based on his large stake in the social-media platform he helped create in the wake of his post-January 6, 2021, Capitol-riot bans on mainstream platforms.
Trump won't be able to sell his shares for at least six months unless the company's board waives a previous lockup agreement.
But if Trump wants to access his money sooner, it may not be a problem: The Washington Post pointed out the board would be stacked with Trump's allies.
Former congressman #Devin #Nunes, who was already the CEO of Truth Social's parent company, is set to become the CEO of the combined companies.
Donald #Trump #Jr., Trump's eldest son, also plans to be on the board.
The former Trump Cabinet officials #Robert #Lighthizer, who served as Trump's US trade representative, and #Linda #McMahon, who served as the administrator of the Small Business Administration, are also set to be on the board.

By Monday, the criminal defendant must post an appeal bond covering the more than $456 million he owes New York state from a civil fraud judgment that Trump wants to continue to fight.
