You know, #Warhammer #40k #books have a couple of reputations. There is the idea that they are power fantasy books, there is an idea of tragedy fundamental to the #grimDark and an idea that its military stuff.

But I was also lead to believe that there would be haunted spaceship stories like Event Horizon and I hadnt really found a good one until I read Sea of Souls.

There was the Lotara subplot and I read those books, but it has nothing on Sea of Souls. It starts off so fucking cheery and optimistic and if you have read the other Dawn of Fire books it starts off almost refreshing, everyone is like this is going to be a tough job but we all have good attitudes about it. Which isnt usually the case.

And then it goes downhill so hard. Its incredible. #amReading

On the tallest hill of the Grand County of Mootland stands a wooden keep. A keep that houses the finest smelling order of Halfling monks. All morning, serving up crispy fried cuts on top of waffles, all evening they spend turning plump chickens on rotisserie spits for dinner.

The youngest of these monks, the fryers, are sent on missions to feed chicken to most needy people in the Known World.

Famous expeditions include: Sargent Sandy’s (deceased, eaten) feeding of the saurus of Lustria, Pop Pie’s (deceased, eaten) nourishing of the forest goblins of Drakwood, and Cain the Risen’s (missing, presumably digested) satiation of the vampires of Lahmia.

And now! Chief Momo and their Finest Fryers Mission will make their name in the world, setting out— this time— underground! To feed the needy dwarf and skaven, filling the tunnels and caverns with the scent of fresh cooked meals that might unite us all.

Wrapped up my Mootlanders for the next LGS Mordheim campaign. Bitbashed using Wargames Atlantic Halflings and various bits and bobs from the bucket.

I made up the Elder, the Chef, three Thieves with Spears, then one heroic posed Warrior if I roll a The Lad’s Got Talent.

Then there’s 8 Warriors with Bows and 4 with Short Bows. I’m using their helmets, lack of quiver, and mostly- way they hold the bow to denote the Short Bows from the regular.

#PennedPossibilities 561 — Give us your thoughts on the genre of your WIP. Do you love it, is there not enough stories written within it, are you an avid reader of the genre, etc.?

First off, yes, I love my two genres. No, I wouldn't say that there isn't enough of them. There are some fantastic #cyberpunk stories. #SFF stories as well. And lastly, yes, I'm an avid reader of those two genres.

My thoughts on the genre(s), though?

Well, let me put it to you this way... At the heart of cyberpunk is a simple yet meaningful contrast: high-tech and low-life. The technology in these worlds is incredibly advanced, but it exists in dystopian societies marked by extreme inequality and corruption. It mirrors our world in such a terrifying way. It's therapeutic to write. Beyond that, however, there is a hope for a better future, and even a love for our MCs, SCs, and their own character arcs that naturally occur within stories. It's a genre that I've poured a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into. For years, I've played #CyberpunkRED and #Cyberpunk2020 as well. That says enough. It's definitely on my list of favorite genres. I'll always return to it. I love #hopepunk, #grimdark, and #solarpunk tales as well. This series delves ever so slightly into those subgenres, too.

Generally, I simplify things and say that it's a dark romance series set in a science fiction fantasy (and cyberpunk-inspired) universe.
