#PennedPossibilities 613 — How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?

I’m feeling good about it, with 2 complete books set in the same town with the same cast of characters. My WIP will loosely be connected through one minor character, but still can be read as a stand-alone. I’m enjoying how the towns feel reel, because they are real places!

I'm happy with my multiverse. I can tell almost any story within this setting, and if it contradicts something I can say "this happens in a 99.9999999% similar reality", or "I'm not saying it was aliens, but it wasn't aliens… it was magic" >=)

It's fun to be a shameless evil creator…=)

I love it. Wish I could live there. Ardonna could be thought of as a character in her own right who the reader learns more about over time. She's more than just setting. The universe at large is vast and still largely a mystery. I do provide glimpse of other worlds.

#PennedPossibilities 603: Describe MC handwriting?

Legible. But that's probably what I'd say for all the characters; I don't think any of them really know cursive, and they can print fine. I did once play around with what their signatures would look like, and I *think* I had Carrie doodle a flower over her 'i'. It's overall an interesting question.

#pennedpossibilities 613 — How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?

You know, I don't think I'll ever be perfectly satisfied with my core universe. There's always something to tweak in the background, even after something happens that becomes "canon".

Since that universe is shared between ttrpg, short and long fiction, as well as a *lot* of dreams and memories, I don't think I could ever be dissatisfied with it either.

I've been building this since 1991.

The current expression of it, in the Leland section of the greater universe, is an alternate branch from the ttrpg branch, which is different from the one I used for my standard fantasy stories, and it's different from the branch *here*.

Leland's universe lacks some of the crazy stuff, like people throwing around nuclear blasts, that the home brew ttrpg branch has. That branch is also much farther away from our reality.

The choice to power down the scale of inborn powers and abilities was deliberate because I wanted the focus to be on the magic as a skill. It lets me play in a different sandbox, while still enjoying my creation, and allowing me to borrow things that I've already built, without feeling obligated to make things exactly the same.

I'd say I'm as happy with it as a chicken with a biscuit

613. How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?

Yes. I've figured out most of its rules, know its geography and people and it can still surprise me and give me ideas. That's what I like about fictional worlds, when they give you ideas. So yes, it develops, but I'm happy with how it goes so far.

#PennedPossibilities 613 — How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?

Writing about 14th century Europe is a mixture of the strangely familiar and the simply strange. I'm mostly satisfied with my recreation of it, but I suspect academic historians will spot mistakes. That said, I'm writing #histfic, not a history textbook and and as long as I tell a good story and don't make any schoolboy errors, I will be (mostly) satisfied.

#PennedPossibilities 613 — How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?

I tend to discover the world my stories take place in while I write them. They grow in scope with my characters' progress.

I love the world of the Wolves.

I'm scared of the world of the Winds & Pillars - although it's fascinating and I can see it bend towards good.

The world of Penumbra scares me. It keeps shifting as politics shift.

#PennedPossibilities 613 — How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?

Remember. You asked...

How do I feel about the world itself? Like I stepped in a cesspool up to my knees!

Most nations are theocracies, with oligarchs ascendant fighting one another. It's a full extrapolation of post Jan 20th 2025, stabilized with the needle at religio-fascist, by those who preferred stable to bat-shit crazy, and taken 50 to 150 years into the future. (I haven't decided the timeline, yet.) The initials E.M. in EM Mars Colonizations Corp stand for what you think it does, complete with very cute silvery Heinlein spaceships misnomered as Starships. The main character is shanghaied to Mars as a colonist (one added to a population of 10,000) on the last ship making the passage as EM goes bankrupt. All her life, May Ri struggled not to be completely nothing, destined by her gender to barely have agency, valued mostly because she could bare sons. Now she must master living on Mars, with its corporate frontier rules.

There's a reason Mars Needed Women (the title), but the story I'm telling has "Need" in the past tense. Men die disproportionately more often than the women in Mars Space, and when the corporate power structure begins to crumble, May Ri has to fight harder for survival. She, however, isn't interested in keeping the status quo. Neither is all her sister colonists, nor all the first generation (nisei) Martians who have all been raised by only their mothers.

I'm really satisfied with how the story I'm writing works within this universe. It's feminist to the core. It questions gender roles. It tars patriarchy as ruining the lives of women AND men.

It's coming together, gonzo pantser style. Just wrote the 14th installment of 31. I've 8 of the remaining 17 planned. The reader should be starting to see that May Ri is as ruthless as those in power (the men, of course), but with a female twist. She hates being used, but she likes men (finds them fun) and wishes they'd quit with the power-dominance-shit. She hates seeing other women being hurt, and she's the type of person, given the chance, ceases opportunities and makes solutions. When she has four daughters to protect against the Earthers, it becomes very real.

I'm posting all installments on Mastodon thru the month of March on a single thread. To keep up with the story, follow this hashtag: #RSMarsNeededWomen.

I struggle, the 6 Core worlds of the Union and the Eltaryn are quite good developed as far as it goes or seems necessary.
Mondira's home planet has a clear vision but still lacks a name.
The 66 associated members aren't as far developed as I want them to be and I thinking of using them on occasion only as a joker card to have some Alien no one expected. While few already have a concept (one are sentient plants and another sentient Fungi)

Same with Rimworld Societies (if you need an Idea on how different the worlds are, look for a map of Germany, look for Bundesländer and than for Landkreise as a map, or American Districts). I have plans for some region and factions in the Ghoststars and beyond. But for now I focus more on the 6 core members and their societies, clothing, worlds and languages.

#PennedPossibilities 613 — How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?

Well, it is a time travel story, and yes, I do like its world. It's slightly different from ours (apart from the obvious time travel stuff), but most of that is Easter Eggs.

And the lore is old. I dreamt that up when I was in my teens as well. It had some time to mature.

#PennedPossibilities 602: How does SC (Al) dress?

The "wanting to look presentable" is mostly for his online segments, where he would wear a button up shirt (and his trademark toothpick). Otherwise he prefers T-shirts and jeans. Probably lighter colours.

#PennedPossibilities 613 — How do you feel about the world or universe you’ve created within your WIP? Are you satisfied with it thus far?

I am, actually. I love creating different universes, and this one is no different. When it comes to anything cyberpunk, dystopian, and grungy, whether it's a book, game, film, television series, or a wonderfully-molded #TTRPG, heck yes—it's going to be something that I'll fall head over feels for. The entire SFF universe within this series of mine is a thing that I'm falling deeper and deeper in love with the more that I write it. It's been a long time coming. This book series (and the world within it) started back in about '08 or '09. The result of all that hard work is more than worth it. In short, yes, I'm so incredibly satisfied.

#PennedPossibilities 612: Has your SC ever snooped in a friend or partner’s house?

Loads of SCs sneak into Freya's home, House Cylinders

Plinius sneaks in to read the books in the library. Freya knows he does and lets him. He even has a key, but he likes to sneak.

Mona sneaks into the house and into Lazarus' bedroom at night. Because, well, 😉

Socrates breaks into the conjuring attic to steal harmful books so he can give them to a dangerous ghost for protection.

#PennedPossibilities 601: SC never spoken about, facial features.

I suppose that's Albert. I tend to zone out where male characters are concerned. He's got short blond hair (damn it, had to look that up) with no curls, and glasses though usually prefers contact lenses. He does keep himself clean shaven and might even moisturize, he runs a UTube channel about urban legends and wants to look presentable.

612. Has your SC ever snooped in a friend or partner’s house?

Absolutely if not the house at least the lockers of crew members but to her/thems defense. Silas is a mother in her private life with a chaos gnome of daughter and the security chief onboard the Ghoz'Tarc.
Sometimes you need to confiscate smuggle goods like " real Lightsabers*"

*Which is a common phrase for non accounted food or restricted private stuff onboard Union and Alliance ships. Something has to stand on the papers even if someone sneaks on their private Sex toys or a box of restricted ale for cooking or getting boozed.

#PennedPossibilities 612 — Has your SC ever snooped in a friend or partner’s house?

For the current crop of SCs, either there isn't enough depth of character revealed to know, or they've never had the opportunity—that is, either a friend or partner they'd want to know more about.

This question for the MCs would be far more interesting.
