This may have something to do with a "redundant constraint", but I can't find out because #FREECAD ONLY TELLS ME THERE IS ONE & REFUSES TO LET ME FIND IT!!... there's a nice little number identifier, which seems great until you realize that the interface contains no way of finding or filtering restraints by their ID number - or if there is, I can't fucking find it...
Also, seriously, #FreeCAD, ur viewport weird sometimes & I can't find out how to fix it...
Oh, and then I try to get my workflow right by Undo'ing backwards through it BUT I'M MOST DEFINITELY NOT SEEING THE SAME OPERATIONS IN REVERSE! FUCKING HOW!? - dunno if this one's just #FreeCAD but holy shit, really!?
@NefariousAryq depends on what you want to do. For more natural and organic sculpting and modeling go for Blender. For designing and functional things look at #FreeCAD. For coding 3d shapes check out OpenSCAD.
Given that those are all Open Source and cross platform you can afford all the tools.
I'm modeling a case for a LilyGo T-Deck in #freecad and it's #freecadfriday and it'll be running #meshtastic
I keep typing things like "Ant_Recess" and "Ant_Bore" so I feel like @futurebird is hangin' out before school...
Basically this post is Peak Fediverse.
It's #FreeCADFriday! What have all you wonderful #FreeCAD users been working on? #CAD #CAM #BIM #Opensource
I'm getting "502 Bad Gateway" when I'm trying to reach the #FreeCAD wiki at https://wiki.freecad.org/
@FreeCAD Are the scrapers hitting us too hard again?
edit: Workaround: Use the markdown conversion available on Github: https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD-documentation
Getting a bit further with my exploration of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) this evening. Using the mighty @FreeCAD I've modelled this "Ballute" style parachute and simulated it descending at 6m/s in air. The air velocity is plotted in the images. Ace to see the turbulence in the point cloud/steam chaser view. If any #CFD experts fancy a chat.... I HAVE QUESTIONS! #OpenFOAM #FreeCAD
Has anybody used Python to generate FreeCAD objects?
Hat jemand schon Python benutzt um FreeCAD Objekte zu erzeugen?
@FreeCAD This #FreeCADFriday I am working on a much improved version of my 3d-printable DIN rail cable comb for wire management.
The model is very parametric so it is easy to generate different variants of the model.
I am very glad about the new function for suppressing PartDesign features - otherwise working on this would be unbearable!
I made a new thing...in #FreeCAD
The world surely was missing a #3dprint able #Insta360 X4 battery travel case. So I made one.
https://www.printables.com/model/1260884-insta360-x4-single-battery-case
It even mimics the slot of the actual camera, if you add the optional spring.
The biggest project I have made with #FreeCADNews . I enjoyed doing it too and found it easier than expected.BIM work bench and Parts workbench for details. Tomorrow will make plan views.
#Freecad, #BIM, #3D
I just passed SpreadSheets, when I started learning #FreeCAD and went with VarSets.
Risky move?
The there was a bug (or could it be configuration issue) with font foreground color being white like the background, https://sw-development-is.social/@HuK/113969027695626531
Now, to think of it, SpreadSheets would offer comment column and other stuff helping refactoring like variable naming not available with VarSet.
Just started to generate ~156 parameters with Python to VarSet... Or maybe I should go w/ Spreadsheets?
It's still not finished but today I made some progress!
I am designing a case for the Xiao ESP32S3 Wio-SX1262 Meshtastic node!
The display does not fit perfectly yet, I need to do the cutout in the lid for the display and make a button.
But I am already pretty happy with the results, thank you @FreeCAD - it's really enjoyable to work with FreeCAD!
When it's finished I want to install it in the attic as my stationary Meshtastic node.
I designed a single-piece 3D printable Arca-Swiss quick-release clamp. Compliant mechanisms are so satisfying.
Made with FreeCAD. Download the model and customize it to your needs: https://www.printables.com/model/1258735-compliant-arca-swiss-quick-release-clamp
Part 3 of building the DIY seismograph. So continuing on the moving arm concept, I settled on using a servo motor as this could easily be driven by the Arduino. I had to make the arm very light so as not to put too much pressure on the small servo motor I was going to use. Here is the model of the arm. Although I went back and forth with different ends to hold the pen, ultimately I ended up going with this clip. Modeled in #freecad #maker #diy #earthquake #arduino #servomotor #seismograph
