Forged in FreeCAD: CERN CMS Detector Cable Clamps
In case it passed you by, over on our mastodon account and on the X platform we have run the hashtag #FreeCADFriday for a long time. It's a straightforward "show everyone what you are up to with FreeCAD" type affair and every week so many amazing projects show up as responses.

Concept/Design work: the holiday trip is starting soon and it’s a cycle trip around lake Bodensee. There won’t be too much time for #hamradio things, but better be prepared. So I‘ve modelled a winder for a 10/15 linked dipole (prototype) ,it’s the USB-C PD adapter by @DG1JAN, an Eremit 12V 2Ah pack (maybe I will replace with a powerbank), headphones and the amazing #truSDX by DL2MAN. Looks like a kit, eh? The bag is a cheap bag by Decathlon which does a great job keep everything together. There is also space for a pen and some paper for logging. #hamradio #3dprint #freecad

#FreeCadFriday This has been my first full week using FreeCAD. I've made so many mistakes, so many retries, but also some progress!

I'm working on a model of the Zeppelin-like airship from one of my novels - I hope eventually to import it into a program that will let me walk through it.

Having some trouble getting rotation joints to stick, but here's a screenshot of one of the engine nacelles.

FreeCAD 1.0.2 released
We’ve just released a new update with over 30 bugfixes and small improvements, go get it here. As a reminder, these 1.0.X releases bring added stability to version 1.0 of FreeCAD, whereas new features in development will be released in version 1.1.

I'm playing with FreeCAD lately. A video showed me how to create a house in the tool. So far, so good. (Well, most of the time. I'm still arguing with some values.)

In the thumbnail, the house has structures and colored walls and such. I can't even figure out what to search for.

So, I have an object, and I'd like it to look like a tile wall or something.

Any idea how to word my question, so I can figure out how to learn this?

Thanks!

Still very frustrated with the black parts of the print, but finally got around to printing the attachable crown (extended my changer by two colors before I ran out of filament for the redirector panels lol) and it looks better than I expected, given that I designed it and I UTTERLY SUCK at aesthetics 🙈 Made in #FreeCad

My first real attempt at modeling something in #FreeCAD - just enough of a speaker amplifier board so that I can later build a case around it with the right openings and vents.

Thanks for the tutorials by @shawnhymel which filled in some crucial missing pieces in my understanding how it works, giving practical advice and nudge to try it out!

Continued thread

For anyone who has no idea what I'm talking about but is interested anyway, almost 3 years ago I starting trying to design from scratch 3D printed model rockets to carry a small video camera and altitude logger while remaining as small and light a possible.

I spent quite a bit of time fiddling around in FreeCAD and OpenRocket and 3D printing prototype parts trying to come up with something that could carry the payload while being both light enough to fly well and tough enough to survive the flight. Eventually this resulted in a series of lights in late 2022, and here are the results: youtube.com/watch?v=s4I2bufpGQc
