#filament

I just found out that my progress in the game Filament is lost. I thought Epic Games has cloud save for it, but after some digging, I found out the sourced of all the tragedy. The synced dir is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Filament\Saved\SavedGames while the actual place for save files is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Filament\Saved\SaveGames. No kidding. Just like that. Lost.

A while back I asked for recommendations for an orange filament that wasn't "super fluorescent". Thanks to everyone who sent in their recommendations! Yesterday, I picked up a spool of Inland's High Speed Silk PLA in "Silk Amber Gold" which fit the bill really nicely. Printed a quick test flower and rupee and really happy with the color.

@flexion Yeah....

As for #prototyping the general dimensions and look, #filament is also way cheaper so one can iron-out the design then test-print segments in a smol resin before getting in touch with a fabricator to deal with it.

Even the #Creality #CR10S5 is a hard sell despite being just an oversized #filament printer that'll slowly sqeeze out "fancy hot glue" at it's end.

@flexion Also #filament (+ paint) is way easier to fabricate and modify as it doesn't require a huge-ass workshop to deal with nasty chemicals...

#Resin isn't nice when it comes to getting screwposts melted into the plastic which one may want as plastic clips are shit and I can't fathom why anyone would want them on a device they'll have to open sooner or later...

I really wish more 3D printing YouTubers would stress the safety issues of glass and fiber filled filaments. They really should look at their skin under a micrscope after handling it.

If I had a YouTube channel and people were getting glass fibers forever embedded in their skin because of a product I recommended if be pissed at myself.

I could imagine something like a "#PipePost" / "pneumatic tube" like system to become ubiquitous - and more #standardization re: #containers for stuff due to #ResourceScarcity and the need to #UseLonger, #Repair and #Recycle way "harder"...

  • Tho I guess once #MSLA & #Filament printers with #CNC routers can be made into #WashingMachine - sized units that can completely print, cure and assemble stuff within minutes automatically up to 2x1x1m then I'm convinced we'll see them as ubiquitous as todays #WashingMachines, because my Grandmas grew up without any washing machine, early "clothes cookpots" and died long after modern "fire and forget" units were ubiquitous to the point that if one household doesn't have one they have communal ones in the apartment complex or can afford to go to a laundromat if not get their clothes done professionally...

I regularly see people say “PLA is fine outdoors, you don’t need any fancy filament”

This is PLA vs PETG in a month or so of *Seattle* sun, we hardly have sun here. Our sun is the Sunny D to California’s orange juice.

Friends don’t let friends use PLA outdoors.
