The first #SevereWeather warnings of the day are going up along the Kansas/Missouri state line. The next 48 hours are going to be rough for many people in the US.
I made a small web app that can cross-reference your phone's GPS location with these weather alerts so you know for sure if you need to take shelter. It's free/libre and available at https://wx4.me.
If you or your loved ones are at risk this weekend, send them a link and boost for visibility!
NEW 2025 #Storms and Skies of the High Plains wall calendar! I've been wanting to produce a photo calendar for a few years now and finally got it done. Check it out

Stormy afternoons! The past four days, we have had quite windy, turbulent, and lightning-loaded afternoon storms, beginning precisely between 16:15 and 16:45. The bay goes from calm/ripply to raging with 1 m waves and whitecaps in a matter of minutes.
Here is a pic of the gauge
I swear it is level but the pic makes it look weird lol
updated my #CoCoRaHS gauge location today
some plants were getting too close for comfort
I emailed to see if I needed to update the location, and they said as long as I don't live on a farm or a multi-acre property, then my existing location is accurate enough
Lots of fresh snow for the Alps! With a northwesterly flow, humid air is continuously pushed against the Alps. Especially between Wednesday and Saturday, it will snow heavily at times. 10 to 20 cm are quite possible even in valleys, in higher elevations up to 50 cm are likely, in exposed inner alpine high elevations even more than 1 m.
Serious question - I know there are some folks on Twitter, and I'm sure here, that are involved in #NWS social media work. Why haven't we seen Mastodon accounts yet? Is it a government thing where it takes jumping through 50 hoops? I've heard a lot over the years from #weather folks that there's broad recognition of needing to communicate more broadly via social platforms. So where's the action now? Seems to be a distinct void at this point. #wxmastodon #wxready #fediwx
Sometimes the hours after a severe weather outbreak are the more photogenic ones. So it was on May 27 this year in South Dakota.

TIL: The University of Southern California was hit by a #tornado—and a strong one, at that—in 1983. Also struck was the junction of the 5 and the 110 downtown, and the area of #LosAngeles now occupied by Crypto.com Arena, where the #Lakers play.
#California might see a tornado or two tonight from the current storm system.

It is a sobering thing to have to segregate different piles of damage from different disasters, like they're part of a collection. #NewOrleans #tornado #LAwx #FediWx
Heartbreaking to see the damage in and around #NewOrleans, knowing that some of the affected residents have now experienced two strong tornadoes this year and a strong hurricane (Ida) a year ago. Watching this man on WDSU show the tornado damage, which is next to a lingering pile of hurricane damage. #LAwx #FediWx #tornado
#Tornado over #LowerNine in #NewOrleans just after 4 p.m. Central.
The PDS watch is unfortunately verifying.
Incredibly dangerous situation unfolding right now with a possibly historic December tornado outbreak in progress. Particularly Dangerous Situation tornado watch issued for Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Northshore, Hattiesburg, Mobile, and parts of west central Alabama until 8 p.m. Central. Imperative to take immediate tornado precautions if warned. #LAwx #MSwx #ALwx #tornado #FediWx #NewOeans
The atmosphere over Louisiana and Mississippi has a mad. #supercells #LAwx #MSwx #FediWx #tornado
Over the next 48 to 72 hours, a prominent #FreezingRain event occurs over a nearly 2,000 kilometer strip from Brittany to Hungary and Slovakia. Among others, metropolitan areas such as Paris, Stuttgart, Freiburg, Basel, Munich, Linz and Vienna may be affected. There may be major disruptions to traffic, and locally even power outages.
