The first #SevereWeather warnings of the day are going up along the Kansas/Missouri state line. The next 48 hours are going to be rough for many people in the US.

I made a small web app that can cross-reference your phone's GPS location with these weather alerts so you know for sure if you need to take shelter. It's free/libre and available at wx4.me.

If you or your loved ones are at risk this weekend, send them a link and boost for visibility!

wx4.meAm I under a severe weather warning? - wx4.meWx4.Me gives you the quickest look at weather conditions in your area, with a focus on severe weather warnings.

Serious question - I know there are some folks on Twitter, and I'm sure here, that are involved in #NWS social media work. Why haven't we seen Mastodon accounts yet? Is it a government thing where it takes jumping through 50 hoops? I've heard a lot over the years from #weather folks that there's broad recognition of needing to communicate more broadly via social platforms. So where's the action now? Seems to be a distinct void at this point. #wxmastodon #wxready #fediwx

TIL: The University of Southern California was hit by a #tornado—and a strong one, at that—in 1983. Also struck was the junction of the 5 and the 110 downtown, and the area of #LosAngeles now occupied by Crypto.com Arena, where the #Lakers play.

#California might see a tornado or two tonight from the current storm system.
