I never imagined I’d witness such a surge of antisemitism in my lifetime, yet here it is — undeniable and full force.

The question, “What would you do?” has turned into, “What do you do?”

As a Hebrew teacher, Israeli, and Jewish woman, I don't have the priviledge of just teaching the language.

I do my best to showcase the true values, rich multiculturalism, and actual daily life of Israel and the Jewish community.

I try to speak up for those whose voices are silenced, all while sharing the beauty of the Hebrew language.

Do I feel it’s enough? No. But when I read thousands of your comments, I’m reminded of the strength we have to shine brighter than any darkness.

Thank you for being such incredible people and for choosing to be the light that inspires and uplifts others.

Here’s what that looks like. Even the biggest, most economically productive cities in the country are now dependent—on subsidies, on favorable politics, on the hope that someone else will come through. When they don’t, the result is crisis. One year, a city might be encouraged to invest in one kind of project. The next, those incentives vanish. Meanwhile, the commitments made under the old program still remain. This kind of political whiplash is not just inconvenient. It’s dangerous. Fragile systems have no buffer. There’s no margin for error. And when something breaks—fiscal, political, or physical—there’s no way to adapt quickly. That’s when dysfunction can threaten collapse. We have to ask ourselves: do we even want to play this game? Do we want to widen the highway to qualify for federal funds, even if it means...weakening our tax base? Do we want to chase grant dollars that demand new growth on the edge of town, while our core neighborhoods crumble? What do we think we're gaining? When cities build their future around the hopes of distant aid, they make decisions that prioritize outside approval over local needs. That’s not strength. That’s dependency. A strong city doesn’t mean a wealthy city, or a growing city, or even a city with all the answers. It’s a place with options.

I'm Anna (or nannnsss on the web) - a 30-something rural-living maker, farmer, front-end dev, anti-fascist living in community on 80 acres in the PNW. The land we live was extracted from for years by the cannabis industry for years, and we are lovingly tending to the soil, native plants, and critter habitats through regenerative agroecology.
My dream is to provide fresh, local produce to my community, create opportunities for collaboration and learning, and bring people together over good food and healthy land.
