One of the things I hate about #AppleMusic is how so many of the songs I ripped from CDs to my #iTunes 20 years ago have gotten matched to the wrong version so I’ll be listening to my #iPhone in my car through #CarPlay and it’ll be the terrible 1967 Bang Records version of “Shilo” instead of the vastly superior 1970 remake.

My 2 cents:

ALL car OSes (CarPlay, Android Auto, etc.) should support all users:

- My phone should connect automatically as soon as I get in the car.
- The interface should be recognizable, easy to navigate, and fast.
- No crashes. Ever.
- All my apps should be supported, especially music (Apple Music and/or Spotify) podcasts (no matter the app) and Maps (Google/Apple).

If not, it's just green bubble, blue bubble all over again.

Earlier betas of the updated CarPlay had the next instruction panel to the left of the active route, now it is on top, making it much harder to see.

Also, the arrival time is taking up so much space, just so that it can be centered/aligned with the panel.

Hey #Apple peeps! Today I have questions about
#CarPlay after the fact. If you have done this, which head unit did you get? If it was DIY, was it a pain? If you did it today, would you get the same thing?

Parameters: Its a 2012 Outback so I want to spend enough $ to get something reliable but not so much I "wasted money" on it when the car's life ends.
No backup cameras/assistants (it'd be nice to add that someday but not today)
Steering wheel controls I'd like to keep.
Current stereo:

Garland has time to cosplay nobleman in NYT and moan at a presser about extended #CarPlay, which almost no one’s adopted, but not arrest the guy who tried to murder the US line of succession? FOH.

Great piece from @markgurman on the battle between Android Automotive (AAOS) and CarPlay.

AAOS (not to be confused with Android Auto) is built into the car itself. CarPlay is on your iPhone, requires that connection.

AAOS will cost you money (even if the first year or so is free). So far, Apple has no plans to charge for CarPlay.

And, of course, Google gets your data.
