Eagle-eyed product developer @parkerortolani spotted something in Apple's WWDC 2025 presentation: Mastodon. During designer Billy Sorrentino's section on visual intelligence, there's a clear shot of @ivory. "It was clearly both a way to subtly show developers what they can do with their own apps, but also read as a sort of endorsement of Mastodon as a social platform," Ortolani writes on his blog. "Apple didn’t show Bluesky, Threads, or X. They chose to show a third-party Mastodon client."

@james this is a good point

it looks like the catalyst apps have their own radius (follow the simulated device radius) whereas the native mac apps have a smaller one

if Apple were principled, they would use the larger radius on mac apps as well, bringing them more in line with the new ipad windows

I’ve been traveling so I missed most of #WWDC and now I’m catching up. So here are my belated hot takes.

Liquid glass looks like a usability disaster. Everyone has commented this already, I’ll spare you.

Feels like Stage Manager is dead. Did anyone actually use it?

iPad improvements look great. Files, multitasking, Preview, audio source selection. It’s almost like a basic Mac. Where’s the terminal and where is multiuser support?

Preview on iPad hopefully means that someone will actually fix the bugs Preview has been accumulating over the years of being abandoned on macOS.

visionOS changes don’t make a dent in the viability of the product. PS controllers are great for the games that don’t exist.

Access to local AI models is huge for developers. The cost of doing inference drops to zero, meaning everyone can do it at scale. This was obvious and expected, but still a very big deal.

Container framework and app is awesome. Great to see investment in this kind of tech. Is that a custom launchd, er, systemd clone in swift?

Another try at game center. I’m sure this time it will work out.

My ability to easily descern which tab in Safari is selected in iOS 26 should in no way, shape or form be dependent on the colors of the underlying webpage. The selected tab should ALWAYS be properly highlighted. Apple should take a cue from the selected state in Mail and throw this design reasoning out the window for the sake of usability. #WWDC
