Some good news from the latest Covid vaccines
Fall Covid-19 vaccine provides additional protection
Scientists tallied the number of people who did (and did not) have Covid-19 from September- November 2024 and whether they got this fall’s Covid-19 vaccine. Among 44,598 infections, the Covid-19 vaccine reduces:
Hospitalizations by 68%
Emergency department and urgent care visits by 57%, and
Outpatient visits by 56%

The “big three”—flu, Covid–19, and RSV—are increasing quickly. Flu is causing the most burden on healthcare systems, but Covid-19 wastewater is increasing fast, which means hospitalizations and deaths will soon follow.
Norovirus—think nausea, vomiting, diarrhea—continues to have quite the season, with the number of positive tests and outbreaks abnormally high.

It’s getting ugly out there, folks. The number of people going to the doctor for a cough or fever is well above epidemic levels at this point.
Three different groups of friends in three different states currently all have upper respiratory infections ranging from bronchitis, to pneumonnia. All three groups have had recent covid infections. Seeing the same thing with recent patients as well. Remember when the evidence pointed towards Covid causing damage making it easier to get other infections? Yeah, thinking there might be something to that...

One thing I initially found confusing with @element / @matrix: How one would share and join a channel. The way you get bounced between instances for that. And in a way for @Mastodon, too.
People describe these services as "just like email". But I think the one thing that is missing for that would be a proper #URI scheme and integration in browsers for things you can join or follow in these federated networks. Email has its established "mailto:foo@example.com" for instance.

Viola Davis keynote speech at University of #RhodeIsland graduation
"The Game", #RhodeIsland at #Providence last night at Amica Mutual Pavilion aka the Providence Civic Center aka Dunkin Donuts Center. #URI kept it competitive for a while but unfortunately got blown out in the end by #PC. Fun anthem from Todd Angilly and halftime show from Celtics dunk team.
This will always be treated like a #basketball rivalry even if PC owns the series. Rhody for life

#Ironically, I had a #problem #loading your #QR #code from #Vivaldi. It was due to the #missing #contrast #frame. There needs to be at least a #little #bit of #white around the #perimeter. The QR you are posting, which is already #missing #everything at first glance, is of a different type. Not "#TEXT", but "#URI".
#Cat #Mastodon help needed please. My daughter is #fostering a cat, her first time. She’s had him 2 weeks. Unfortunately, he has a LOT of health concerns. #Entropion & chronic #rhinitis. He had eye #surgery a week ago & still looks/feels poorly. At his checkup today, they put him on oral #antibiotics & told her he has an #URI & #stomatitis. When his stitches come out, they’ll put him on #steroids for his mouth. He hates getting his meds (who doesn’t?) but doesn’t hold a grudge. Any suggestions?
