Every single day ... and not simply once per day...
"Was XX made this way specfically as terrible as possible so that I'll eventually give up and buy a YY?"
"Why does XX get worse with every single system update? Do they know anything about regression testing at all?"
"Do they only operate on the idiotic notion of 'Move Fast, Break Everything?' as if we were still in 2009 web2.0 and testing in production? Also, only lazy unimaginative chuds think that everything needs to be tested in production!"
"Do they really think everyone is an A or a B in their poorly conceived deployment process? 'well, some percentage of our users can suffer as long as we remain profitable by ZZ% so we definitely A/B test in production!'"
Faffing around with the Test2::Suite #SoftwareTesting framework (successor to Test::More) that’s been included in #Perl v5.40 for almost a year (https://perldoc.perl.org/Test2::Suite), plus DBD::Mock (https://metacpan.org/pod/DBD::Mock) and Dario Roa’s #Codye code screenshot tool (https://darioroa.com/codye/)
The latter is good for embedding code snippets to #SocialMedia and #microblogs like #Mastodon.
They don’t *have* to be as decorative like the attached example, of course…
Security Testing - A Bit of Security for January 28, 2025
We can test for security. Here’s a hint on how to do that. Listen to this -

Updating my intro post here:
I am a #foodhistory nerd who loves cooking.
I #knit, #crochet, and #sew a bit.
I enjoy #kdrama and am learning #Korean.
Professionally I manage a fleet of #robots for #softwaretesting. I am listed on a JIRA ticket as "Robot God". I didn't write it.
OMG, the Libre 2 glucose sensor app gets worse.
It looks like the app will pick up glucose readings whenever Toby is in range. However, in spite of saying it has 18 readings from the last 2 hours, and the fact that I have scanned the sensor intentionally twice, I can only get one definitive number. The rest is in graph form with large number gaps and no way to get precise times or readings. And that is the best of the views I can find.
This is quickly moving from #CatsOfMastodon into #softwaretesting and #iotfails .
I am glad to not have to piss off my cat 6 times a day for 2 weeks, but this UX needs WORK. How can it have 18 readings but I can't access them? What am I missing here?
Starting a manual log now because otherwise I fear I won't get enough solid data for my vet, and I am not risking my cat's life with this.
ideally, there is a Test Engineer or QA team that can either write the functional tests, or confirm that those being referred to are legitimate and sufficient.
It's just important that when something is a barrier between your feature code and shipping there should be someone responsible for helping the team keep it green.
> #UnitTests slide down the cost / benefit continuum. This doesn’t mean that nobody uses them, or that there aren’t systems where they make sense (such as a physics engine or net code, say). In general, though, it means a smaller proportion of #game #devs use #unit #tests as compared to other #software disciplines.
Think slowly when you are testing And Think slowly when you are automating
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hey there, fellow fediversians, I need some help!
I am trying to increase the #diversity of authors I reference in my lectures
I teach #SoftwareArchitecture and #SoftwareTesting, so if you have books/authors on these subjects that you'd recommend that are written by #women, please let me know!
Boosts for reachability very much appreciated!!
I am a software engineer, currently juggling (and failing) to balance time between teaching #softwareArchitecture and #softwareTesting to 3-4th year undergraduate students, researching on #automatedTesting and #distributedSystems on the #BEAM (#Erlang, #Elixir), exploring #SocialMedia media from a #feminist and #multidisciplinary perspective, and advocating for #Floss in the context of scientific research and #OpenScience.
Oh, and the so-called personal life, of course!!
Hi, I'm Mike!
I thought I would try this Mastodon thing out. Seems like a cool place so far! I'm looking forward to meeting great people!
Some things I'm interested in:
- #reading #scifi and #fantasy #books and #shortstories
- #backpacking, #hiking and #nature
- learning about #stoicism #philosophy
- coding in #python, #django
- dreaming about #indiedev and #bootstrapping
When I'm not doing any of that stuff, I'm probably #softwaretesting at work.
Have a great day!
Introduction with happy dog picture
Right, okay #introduction. I'm a #queer #NonBinary type who works in #SoftwareTesting by day and on #MentalHealth resources (#Anxiety #CPTSD) by night. You can find more on that at @carebackpack
I also read/listen to weird horror, sling #tarot cards occasionally, and #CrossStitch
