Spent this weekend debugging Dungeons of Freeport since the engine upgrade, and adding debug features for the coming months.

There's debug quick starts now that generates a character, gives them appropriate gear for their level, etc.

Even randomly picks a name.

Getting closer to the Next Phase(tm).

I used to run a D&D (Cyclopedia, I think?) campaign based on Omega. Everything in the world was limited to Level 4 until you broke open the main dungeon, and then the world started levelling up, but so does the spread of Chaos, and the world ends at some high Level (12?).

Put a real doom clock on things, for sure.

Eventually the players get used to Colonel's Fried Lizard Parts.

People complain in my games about the difficulty curve, and sometimes the inventory management, but GOOD FUCK they never played Omega. I made another guy, poked a door, Vlad Tepes ate me.

I HAVEN'T LEFT TOWN YET. I NEED GEAR.

Probably give up for now, 3 stupid deaths is enough for a day, but I'll be back.

I have beat this game, several times, on the Atari ST 30 years ago. [ed: 1990s were apparently 30 years ago, not 20. I don't know either.]

I've been coding this in C with the intention to test porting it to console homebrew such as for gameboy and nintendo DS.

I'm using the BASIC source code as printed in a 70s gaming magazine as a guide. I've made some changes but tried to keep most of the logic and numbers faithful to the original.

I created Notebook RPG, a free minimal solo ttrpg meant to be played anywhere with only a pocket notebook, pencil, and one d6. Roguelike gameplay that moves as fast or slow as you want it to.

Do a quick read through the rules, copy the tables to your notebook for reference, and start dungeon delving instead of doomscrolling.
