I’ve been playing around with Python a bit this morning. My knowledge of Python is minimal.

At work, I primarily code in Ruby on Rails. Everybody likes to shit on Ruby on Rails for being “old tech”.

But let me tell you: Bundler absolutely beats the SHIT out of pip for dependency resolution and ease of use, hands down. There is no contest.

I am amazed that modern coding is primarily based on JavaScript and Python, two languages with toolchains that are LEGENDARY TRASHFIRES. I swear, using various 8-bit embedded C toolchains fifteen years ago was less esoteric and frustrating than dealing with this bullshit.

DWP: "Ah, you suffer from a fatigue condition, tremors, dyslexia and other things - here's a 34 page to fill in by hand... Oh, we do have an online form you can use - just call us up and wait on hold for over 45 minutes [and counting] to ask us to send it to you..."

Aargh.

Labour is slashing support for sick and disabled people — even though MPs have confirmed it will push 50,000 into poverty.

This isn’t reform. It’s an attack on the people who need help the most.

Read, rage, and raise your voice.

Continued thread

Not consulting with #Disabled organisations and charities on #PIP eligibility rule changes is the key reason #Labour #welfare legislation was so poor that their own MPs rebelled in huge numbers against it.

#Starmer gutted the bill at the last minute because his own MPs could not support something that they knew was unworkable, unethical and would lead to the financial penury and deaths of their constituents.

Poor legislation is proposed when beancounters at the Treasury simply don’t consult.

Would you have thought that before putting out a Green Paper proposing massive changes to #PIP eligibility rules, #Labour would have consulted the key stakeholders? Organisations and charities supporting the #disabled. Especially as these so called #WelfareReforms were not in their 2024 manifesto?

Well you would be wrong. My friend has just received this FOI request back from the DWP…

"With his authority damaged by poor judgment, absence of leadership and a sheer lack of understanding of what the #Labour party exists for, Starmer will stumble on weakened and directionless, convincing himself that sitting next to Trump and attending Nato and G7 meetings means he has a historic role to play."

The Guardian · Poorly led, strategically inept and shorn of democracy. Now I truly fear for this Labour governmentBy John McDonnell

Kendall's changes will come in Nov26, and will only affect new claimants.

LK also promised a review into the assessment process in partnership with #disability organisations, due to be completed in autumn 2026.

But many Labour MPs questioned the rationale for making changes to the qualifying criteria BEFORE the review was finished

Kendall said any recommendations from the review - to be led by disability minister Stephen Timms - would be implemented "as soon as possible"
