People who participate in online meetings using platforms like Zoom may want to pay closer attention to how their computer microphone alters the sound of their voice.
That's because high-quality audio can make the speaker seem more attractive and convincing to others, according to results published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. @npr reports:

Took out my Joe Meek JM47. Its been in storage for 20 or so years. Still works thank fuck. Always leant a nice chime'y quality to acoustic guitar and clean electric.

Image is from Sound on Sound mag around 99. Mine still looks like this. 😮 Any time I see one listed on ebay or reverb they're wrecked.

This is just an example of me rambling spoken stuff about it. I feel like this is a bit of tech history.

A quick photo to compare the Sennheiser e906 with the Subzero SZM-GD100

As you can see the SZ is chonky compared. Its also about a 3rd longer. No idea why it comes with a shock mount. It is a dynamic mic. The capsule inside is also massive compared to the e906.

The SZ also needs a ton less gain. Its not going to handle really loud speakers.

@adingbatponder needs a good microphone/headset (via @sam)

Q5. Anyone know of a reliable #microphone and how to use it for #telephoning with decent sound on a smartphone while #cycling ?

I can #telephone in the car fine but on #bike I have to abort most calls. Is there a trick I can use to have decent sound without wind and clothes rubbing mic, background noise, etc?

Do I have to wear a #motorcycle #helmet for the #soundquality?

Thanks for any tips!

John Jennings, co-founder and president of #Royer Labs, was one of our guest speakers in class yesterday. Here he is holding up the original prototype #R121 ribbon #microphone. He played us lots of audio demos, told us about the many joys and pitfalls of ribbon microphones, shared stories from his career and funny quotes from David Royer. Super nice, friendly guy who is very passionate about transparent audio recording.

Kamala Harris’s campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu on Wednesday
💥mocked Donald Trump over the #microphone #muting issue at the upcoming presidential debate,
saying his own team
⚠️ “wants to shut him up.”

“You know, I find it so interesting that what we’re fighting about is the fact that 🔥his own team wants to shut him up,”
Landrieu said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I don’t know if I’ve ever heard that before in the debates and the rules of the debates.”
