In 2023 (linked in the post above this in this thread), I wrote about my favorite LPs of 2023 & included Reading, Pennslvania's BAGHED's record 'The Logic Project' on it, because I loved it. Oops- that was a demo. It shouldn't have been on that list, I loved it, I don't care.
This year, Baghed released their ACTUAL debut LP 'Smear Campaign' in February, and it fuckin RIPS - I love this odd, lo-fi record with some great guitar lines, drums and everything else -- all recorded in a BEDROOM.

I wrote “Okada Boys: Is there punk in Nigeria?” for my zine #ShotgunSeamstress in 2015. It was a short but meandering exploration of subculture in the country my parents immigrated from.
At the time, I wasn’t aware of any actual #punk bands in #Nigeria, so I wrote about a stud-and-leather wearing pop star named #CharlyBoy who is famous for not only his music but his unorthodox lifestyle. At the time I wrote the article, he had been in the news for his work organizing okada (motorcycle taxi drivers).
Today, a decade later, I finally found out about a #NigerianPunk band through @cybeardjm called “1 Last Autograph.” They formed in 2014 and are now defunct: https://m.soundcloud.com/1lastautograph

@cybeardjm Wow, I wrote an article in my zine around 2015 wondering if there was punk in Nigeria. Can’t believe I’m only hearing about this now, a decade later, even thought it looks like they formed before 2014. I’ve heard of metal bands from other African countries, but not specifically #punk from #Nigeria. Thanks for sharing.

Blind Willie McTell ist einer dieser Wundermusiker der Musikgeschichte. Ich hatte die Schallplatte aus den Zeiten als Suzy Q Records noch ein Plattenladen war, und hab sie nie angehört. Die Aufnahmen sind gruslig schlecht, man hört gelegentlich sogar den Straßenverkehr im Hintergrund. Aber eines Tages habe ich es mir dann doch mal genau angehört und mich durch die Störsignale durchgearbeitet und dann konnte ich nicht mehr aufhören es anzuhören. Was für magische Lieder, was für ein komplexes Songwriting .. und auch wenn es überstrapaziert ist, was für Punk Texte. "Dying Crapshooters Blues" hab ich auf der "Desperation" LP gecovert. Ein Hommage an einen Zauberer.
