Hello okla.social! My name is Dani, I'm from SW Oklahoma, and I'm a political activist and organizer. As of this post, I'm certain Bibliogram isn't working anymore. If that's the case, then I'm not sure an alternative way to view the source of my pfp is available. But if you're interested, here it is: instagram.com/p/DFGi_l1yHZC/

Hi all, an #introduction post! My name is Daniel. I'm nonbinary (they/them) and I craft, cook, and write code. I hope to share what I'm currently making with you and get to know some of you better.

I'm latine and the child of Mexican immigrants, I love my culture and where I came from. I love to cook Mexican cuisine, but I love to learn new recipes. Nothing makes me happier than the aroma of roasting chiles.

I love all things fiber arts, but I mostly knit, crochet and spin. I'm slowly learning to sew. My favorite color is purple, so you will probably see a lot of purple finished objects.

I currently do security work but also love working on web apps. Language I work with are Ruby, Python, JavaScript, and Clojure.

I'm super into FFXIV so if anyone is ever looking to play I'm Erasme Ixchel on Faerie server. Other than that I've been playing a lot of Balatro lately.

I'm neurodivergent (ADHD) and learning more about what that means for me as I age.

Nice to meet you!

Some people get really triggered when I use the term #Latinx. Sometimes Latinx people but honestly mostly white people. Listen, if someone has a term they personally prefer to be called -- Latinx, #Latine, #Hispanic, #Chicano -- I'm going to use it. Same goes if a group has agreed on what they want to be called. Same with people's #pronouns. If I don't know what they want, I'll ask. If that's not possible, I'll just do the best I can. That's really all we can do.

#DEI is part of what we do at work. We help high schools build equitable and inclusive computer science programs.

In states such as Florida, we present it as every student having access to computer science classes, and as having the demographics of the CS classes match the demographics of the campus as a whole.

We expect schools to make a DEI commitment at the start of the school year (before, actually, when working out the details of which course type and curriculum), and we follow up. Sometimes, teachers are doing DEI already (displaying posters depicting diverse CS innovators, for example).

So I can't really answer the question the way you ask it.

Also, my role is supporting staff doing this work. My co-workers (the region I support) are my bosses, and my peers support their own regions.

Because all of us are #contractors, it matters that I support staff working in states that ban DEI in schools. If there aren't enough enrolled schools, they could be looking for work. (This is in answer to "Why 'yes'?")

I support #Black, #white, #Latine and #Native staff. Men, women, and nonbinary. Eight directly, and another twenty or so on some large projects.

Red Scare at the Smithsonian? Battle Brews over Portrayal of Latino History in Planned New Museum

Last year, the Smithsonian Institution opened a temporary preview exhibition inside the National Museum of American History that has become the focus of controversy within the Latino community, as Republican lawmakers and others challenge what one conservative writer described in The Hill as an “unabashedly Marxist portrayal of history.”

I didn't know that #?AndTheMysterians (whose 1966 #1 hit song #96Tears I've always liked) are #Latinx / #Latine "#ProtoPunks".

So both sides of my #heritage helped create, and still maintain, #PunkRock #music.

"...#punk was not invented by white males, nor was it exclusively their domain. Punk was created by #women, people of color, and #queers. And without all of us, it would be nothing."
